you'd think they's have waited
until the f'ing votes were counted, or at a minimum until the polls closed to start the upward climb of gas prices again! from the time i filled up this morning until i drove by the very same station tonite after work, i S you not gas prices went up 6 cents.
i had heard that the oil companies were at the request of the "administration" bringing prices down to hopefully aid the GOP in this ever so important mid term election. you know fool the people again into thinking that our current leadership had righted things to some extent in that area? i thought that was a bit extreme for a conspiracy theory, but i am a believer now. from 2.26 a gallon this morning to 2.33 tonite. i am very curious to see what the prices are a week from now, but 2.50 and some sad excuse from the oil companies about "it's now winter and heating costs will drive gas back up".. surprised? i should not be, and don't tell me that dubya did not place a call to his oil buddies. "just keep em low till after the election boys, it will pay off fer all us good old boys in the long term" "gotta keep the house and the congress in my favor". (insert jon steward's "dubya sinister laugh" here) i will eat pelican if the prices trickle back down, but i suspect they will be going up in 6 or 8 cent jumps over the next few weeks till they settle back in at 3.00 a gallon. like the Who sung, "we been had again" T$

Today is different how?
Last I heard it's called a market economy subject to the laws of supply & demand. And I'd like a little sample also...I even have papers.

no matter how the criminals on Wall St. manipulates prices, ie. the "big boys" buying or selling to cause these fluctuations, you can always rely on the naive, blindly claiming it's only "supply & demand!". "supply & demand!"."supply & demand!".

Seems safe to assume economics was not your strong point in school.

Hey Chevron, this is W on the phone, would you mind dropping your quarterly profits by about a billion or so cause I need to get the republicans to stay in power. Chevron, sure, no problemo!
If you really think W controls the WORLD price of oil, then I think your giving him way too much credit.

By golly, you're right. It just never occurred to me that they might possibly be buying and selling stocks based on the recipe for my grandmothers chicken caccitaorre. Damn. And to think of all the profit I could have made being on the inside. Grandma always said we never appreciated her.

dont think the oil companies are not in debt to our guy in the oval office, after all his war is a major influence on what the cost of a barrel of oil is running. since he's taken office the profits of oil companies have grown more % wise than the cost of a barrel of crude oil i would suspect. i am just sayin, and you can bet i will be continuing to watch as it heads back north of 3 bucks a gallon as i commute 80 miles a day round trip. and i do agree with hugh r's last point, some of the people here are giving W too much credit all too often... How about another wild, baseless assumption while we are at it? Prices will climb as big oil braces for the Democratic takeover and the inevitable taxation, surcharging, restrictions, and penalties foisted upon their "evil" corporations by the hand-wringing ninnies. Er, I mean liberals...

The retail price of gasoline started creeping up about 8 days ago. Welcome to last week. It is a small correction and will wiggle around a bit for the next two months assuming no global catastrophies.
Here's a little bit of useful information: Gasoline prices go down in the fall, bottom out around November or december, and start back up when the refineries shut down for overhauls. They do it in January and february for the most part, because that is when the government says it is OK. When kids go back to school (in the fall) people don't take as many vacations. they don't travel anywhere near as much. They don't drive as many miles as the days get shorter, and they don't use the air conditioner as much. They switch to a winter blend that costs less to produce. Gasoline consuption goes down, prices go down. IT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR. In the late spring, the refineries switch to a summer blend with a lower RVP (that the government specifies) which costs more to produce. Peopel start going on vacation more, travelling more, the RVs get washed up and ready to go, the demand for gasoline goes up and the price goes up. IT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR. The price of gasoline is seasonal and you can set your watch by it. Blaming it on the president makes you look the fool. Actually thinking that chevron or any other oil company controls the prices at the pump is.... well it is certainly not an informed opinion. Chevron owns about 2% of all Chevron branded stations, the rest are independently owned and operated. The station owners set the retail price. The price of wholesale gasoline is determined by the buyer, not the seller. The only way an oil company could control the price would be if the held back the supply. I can guaranty you that if they tried, someone would be in jail in 24 hours. we have government bean counters crawling all over the place every week. if we have to cut production even a very small amount, we have to report it immediately and they perform a full investigation. if the reason is legitimate we will probably only get a fine. if the production cut was not legitimate, someone gets chrome plated bracelets and gets a free ride downtown. No industry is more stringently monitored, and no industry is cleaner. Read the last line in my sig. if you don't know what you are talking about, just stop talking. |

You guys are sure smart. For example, you know that powerful billionaires do not have a close relationship with the regulatory powers that limit their earnings. I'm sure we can all agree they leave few stones unturned in the building and maintaining of their empires, but I did not know until this afternoon that they don't make deals with politicians. I wish I were as wise in the ways of the world as you guys are.
