Congrats on the House Dems

I hope/think we will hold onto the Senate, but more importantly I hope my guys learn from this loss.

Here's hoping the conservatives in the house act like their namesake next time around.

Hey, you guys can't do much damage with only the House right

Ideally, the Republicans will learn a lot, and the Democrats won't learn too much, if you know what I mean.

The main lessons I'd like (hope) both parties to learn from this midterm election:

1. Go too far to the extreme, pander too exclusively to your "base", and you will lose. Come to the center, where the vast majority of Americans live, and you will win.

2. If your President is driving your party off a cliff, grow some balls and rein him in. Or be pushed off the cliff with him.

3. Don't start a war that you didn't have to start and that you don't know how to win.

The new house leadership, Pellosi, Hastings (the judge who was impeached and removed for bribery, corruption and perjury), Rangle, Waxman, et al are not likely to take your lesson #1.

The republicans definately deserved to lose, they will probably get lucky and keep the senate but they deserve to lose that, too.

But this is really just replacing one motley crew with another.

I just hope that the republicans filibuster every single piece of legislation that the demos come up with.

This will be interesting. It's easy to be against everything. Now we'll see what they're for.

The Senate doesn't even have to consider what the House passes. The House will spend the next two yrs. holding hearings and investigations and will not pass a single item of their agenda. And this will be very good for the GOP in '08.

Classy move on the congratulations. A rare thing these days.

I'm happy not necessarily because I agree with the Democrats, but because at least it will finally dam the river of stupidity that's been roiling since this administration took office. As I've said before, a do-nothing government is a LOT better than the one we currently have.

It's kind of sad to think that in a democracy the "best" choice is the one that can do the least, but that's what we have.

The inevitable subpoenas over Iraq ought to bring some interesting stuff to light. We'll see. At least ol' Bushy boy is finally back in his monkey cage where he belongs. Shame we had to vote in a bunch of liberal bleeding-hearts in order to do it, but sometimes the ends justify the means. This is one of those times.

Mission accomplished.

I really wonder how much would come out in an Iraq investigation that isn't already in Woodward's latest book.

len...That was a class beginning to the thread. Too bad that others can't understand the theory of give-and-take that best describes American politics.

As an independent, I have hopes that both parties begin to understand the folly of pandering to small groups, thinking that this will not alienate the folks of more moderate slant. I hope that things do get done, that the president discovers the value of listening rather than deciding, and that more rational voices on both sides of the aisle and in both the House and the Senate take charge and show the courage to work together, putting the country's needs ahead of political party.

God Bless America

So you say..........

Lithium might just help you, or maybe as an electrical engineer you might try a little self induced shock therapy....

Seriously, snow...fewer and fewer Americans seem to agree with you. And when it comes to rational, how would you know?

God, it is difficult to find a more contrary or closed minded poster.......

But, I do appreciate the comedic interlude......even moderates have a sense of humor.

If you toss in "Fiasco" and "Cobra II", probably next to nothing.

Both of those books skewer the admin(and oh yeah, Rumnamara), but Fiasco is the first book to really lay into the senior military leadership for it's blatant stupidity.

It is almost as if the Vietnam war had never been fought, so completely were the lessons forgotten.

Asssclowns...

Divided we fall; The fact that a lot of these elections are so close goes to show that things are not being done right (or left...whatever).

I'm a Democrat (socialist...whatever) and while I am happy to see some winning from the blue I really don't feel like this has been a Victory. I believe I'm pretty moderate in general which is to say more specifically that I am a social liberal and a fiscal conservative. In other words I want someone else to pay for my social programs. :-)

Seriously though; It seems to me that there has been a lot of pandering to divisive issues that the majority of folks simply don't fully agree on.

Abortion, Gay Marriage, flag burning what have you...these issues are paraded around like they are the end of democracy as we know it.

It isn't.

There are more important issues, the war in Iraq is a very important issue and it is a very tragedy. It should be, American men and women are dying young and that is always tragic.

These elections that are so close only underscore how badly our policital parties are doing to garner the support they need. To be honest it seems like they are doing a "half-assed" job at it. Only shooting for the 51% they can get by dividing everyone instead of going for the 65-75% they should be. You can't win everyone over but you can at least try to represent more than your base.

I guess I'm just rambling; I suppose Len's remarks show some class but I really don't think they show much.

It's like an apology where the offender says "I'm sorry I hit you but you had it coming."

As far as I'm concerned the House, Senate and Executive branches we have employed today as well as their commitees for re-election should be shown their walking papers.

You're a fiscal conservative that believes in socialism?

Wow, there's a new one. I'd ask you to explain in depth...but you're ignoring me.

That is not such a strange concept. In most instances, libertarianists consider themselves conservative on economic issues and moderate on social issues. The two are not necessarily incompatable. If one invests in "teaching a man how to fish", then that man will be self sufficient in the future. If not, he will have to be fed for a long, long time at a mich higher total cost.

SO being a conservative is the same as being closed minded. What a bunch of crap.
