I didn't see the pics that are bad on that link, but there are some associated pics out there from this accident that are horrible. They are definitely material for rotten.com.
It's very sad. And that's why neither one of my kids got a car that it's that easy to go really fast. New drivers shouldn't get anything too fast or too sporty.

Unless you are really into gore, I wouldn't search too hard for the pics. They are terrible. This is what can happen when kids have access to keys after drinking. I believe all cars should have some type of alcohol sensors & defeat mechanism built into them. I believe DUI offenders have something similar installed into their cars as part of probation?

My understanding is that the car was not hers. She took off in her dad's car after a family argument and after drinking.
Any car can do 100mph. Bad judgement, emotions and alcohol don't mix well.

18..drinking..family argument. and yep, any car can do 100 mph is basically true. it wasn't the car that killed her, it was her judgement and the rapid stop..

To the best of my knowledge, the graphic pictures have been removed from Pelican. If I have missed any of the pics, please PM me with a link to the thread and I'll remove them.
Certainly it is not proper to post such pics - espeically for the sake of the family - drunk or not, angry argument with family withstanding, they still lost a young loved one. -Zoltan.

I know the road that that happen on, I used to live a few miles away from there. For the result to be as catastrophic as it was there was some seriously bad judgment involved.
I saw the pictures from a link on an earlier post IIRC. They were EXTREMELY graphic and, to be honest, quite distressing even with a fairly high tolerance to that sort of thing. I did wonder if it was really appropriate, and couldn’t imagine how the girls family must feel, assuming they know the images are out there. I also had a great deal of sympathy for the police officers who have the job of clearing up the scene of the accident. That has to be one of the worst jobs possible. BUT - Would those images help kids to understand reality, responsibility for their actions, and the potential result of a combination of excessive speed and poor judgment? I can see the possibility of those images being beneficial, just from the pure shock factor. These kids are growing up in the video game age, watching street racing glorified on the big screen. No one gets hurt there. Combine that with the apparent prevalent attitude that makes them think that they are not responsible for their actions, and, kids being kids, I suspect the possibility never crosses their mind that it could all go horribly wrong in an instant and you can't just hit the reset button. But this sure brings it home in a hurry. I am very carefully considering the possibility of showing this to my kid to teach him the importance of safety; why I insist he wears a helmet when he rides his dirt bike, why he won't be driving any fast cars, especially my Porsche, until he's been driving for a few years, why it seems like I'm being a 'mean' Dad when really all I care about is him seeing it through to his 25th birthday. I don't know, it's a tough call and one I will be thinking over for a few weeks for sure. I don't want to give him nightmares, but I will guarantee that it would be one of those lessons a kid will never forget.

Because of this forum thread, I did a search for this on the web to see the pictures. Yes, a couple of them are quite graphic showing her in the car like that.
If I were her parents, its not only devastating enough to know that this happened...but the fact that the photos of their little girl in that state are plastered on the web would be very upsetting to me. I am guilty of wanting to see the photos, but not because of shock value. I wanted to see them, in order to come to an opinion as to how could photos of such graphic nature be so easily distributed on the web. What I found was that some of the photos appeared to have been taken from angles and a perspective to show the gore as extremely as possible. I mean, do they really need to take multiple photos of someone picking up her brains and putting them in a bag? I dont think its necessary. I have taught myself to view the human body as a machine and that its made up of materials and components. Thats not to say that the devastation of the crash is not lost on me... i totally felt it by looking at those photos... and I will never forget what I just saw. If the newspaper published what I just saw publically...then shame on them for prostituting this tragedy for shock value. If the police somehow leaked the photos, for shock value etc...then shame on them too. Its pretty sick. Aerkuld... I understand your point. Back in the day, they used to park crushed cars on the lawn of my high school every year around prom time, with a sign that said something like "this is what drunk driving can do". The idea was to create some extra shock value awareness. Im not sure if it helped or not...with my group, we were pretty responsible kids anyway and would have gotten a cab or limo had we been drinking. With photos such as these, I feel that some kids may even be desisitized enough by them to actually disregard them...they are that graphic. Others would be completely shocked and devastated internally, because the scene is quite bad. If I were a parent, I dont think I would be showing this to my child just to make a shock value statement...but thats just me. If you have to resort to that type of parenting in order to get your kid to obey somehow, then its probably a lost cause at that point anyway because they should listen to you life-long, if you have developed a loving relationship filled with trust. (note, when I say 'you' Im using that in general terms and not directing it at Aerkuld or anyone else specifically) Last edited by Sonic dB; 12-05-2006 at 08:49 AM.. |

I'm 18, few weeks ago a girl I dated about a year ago fell asleep at the wheel with her friend on the freeway after a night of partying. The car exploded after it ran off the side of the 605 freeway so they cant prove they were drinking. This kind of stuff has been happening alot lately.

It is things like this that bring about a change in perspective as one grows up. I have had a few friends that have had unfortunate accidents. There is nothing like sitting in the pub with a buddy on a Sunday night then finding out that he was killed the next day after running his motorcycle into the back of a farm tractor. The thought that he was there, sitting next to you, and now you'll never see him again really makes you sit up and pay attention. As unpleasant as these things are you just have to learn from them, count your blessings that it wasn't you that was the subject of the lesson, then put into action what you have learned. Most of all, I don't want my kids to have to find out the hard way.

My 18 year old son just bought a '79 SC last summer. He started out driving one of my old Bugs. I'm still not all that comfortable with him in a 911, but he did it on his own, along with meeting his college expenses. He is a determined kid.
Likely unlike this young lady, he has been well and thoroughly exposed to the sports car world. He has been riding with me since long before he could drive, both on the street and on the track. He has seen the "ugly underbelly" our our hobby, both on the street and on the track. He has seen good people, friends of mine that are now friends of his as well, wreck their cars both on and off the track. Some have been hurt; some rather seriously, most not. I just hope to God this exposure tempers his behavior when he is out in that thing. He has now started going through the local PCA's Drivers Skills / Drivers' Education program; not at my insistance or anything, but at his own request. He genuinely wants to learn to drive the thing competently. Granted, if he had not asked, I would have insisted. Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that I believe an 18 year old can have a car like this. Both the kids and the parents have to fully realize what they are getting into, and take positive steps to educate the kid and minimize the risks. This girl's parents, while I obviously cannot say for sure, apparently did not do that. And it cost them their daughter. How sad.

I saw the pictures earlier... wish I hadn't.
My question: Who took the pictures? I can't imagine a passer-by was allowed to photograph the scene so closely. Would they have been taken by a first responder?
