I think it was Speer that made plastic bullets and cases in a couple of different pistol calibers that were propelled by primers only. Wadcutters. Good draw / fire speed practice. Good for strays too.

I've seen the same done with wax 'bullets' made just by punching the shell into a thin sheet of wax. Still I think using it for fast draw w/o protection on your leg would really hurt if you had an AD.

Plastic = no wax build-up.
Point is, primers are very powerful. And the component most sensitive to mishandling in ammunition manufacture.

Well yes and no. I loaded 50 new trimmed brass cases. 6 of the 50 primers went in sideways with no noticeable difference in feel and no new explosions.

The cases also tend to jam on the die in positions one two and 3, at random. I have adjusted the shell tray and shell tray loader per their instructions, but at least 1 or 2 out of 5 stick and need manual persuasion.

I am using Hornady 350G FP bullets, Winchester Brass, trimmed to 2.095" and Winchester WLRM primers.

Something is not right. I have loaded over 1000 .45 acp or 500 30.06 with my old 650 and not a hang-up.

Please call Dillon and tell them what is happening. If there is a problem then it needs to be fixed before another loud noise occurs.

Edit, meant that I had loaded this number of rounds IN ONE HOUR, so it should work and work smoothly with no hassle.

Agree with your sending it in. Send in the entire top plate with the dies just in case there is a problem there.

Yeh, I am about ready to send the whole machine back to have them adjust it. Could be that the original explosion also damaged something I cannot see.

On the rare occasions I've had a primer go off while handloading (not a Dillon press) the smell always transported me back to my boyhood days playing with caps/cap guns.

Could you fill us in on other reloaders you've used? I wouldn't expect a beginner to go with a 650.
3031 is not the easiest powder to run through a measure but can be dealt with.
re "factory adjusted machine", we have met the factory and he is us.
Hats off for needing a bunch of .45-70's, you got a Gatling gun or something?

I am only firing off a couple thousand rounds. No need for a gatling gun for that.
