Anybody else like Shooting Brakes?

I've wanted a shooting brake ever since I saw one in Italy, it was an Alfa, although I don't remember what model.

Now Volvo is coming out with the S30:




and I just saw this article regarding an Audi TT version:

What are the chances of someone that makes a reliable car would actually put out something this interesting?

In america we do call them station wagons, and yes they're quite handy. It makes no difference how many side doors it has, it's still a station wagon.

One of the nicest looking small ones was the last of the Pinto models, the one's with the (mostly) glass tailgate. Unfortunately, the chassis was so flexible on those that front tire wear was an issue. Probably somewhat correctable with a strut tower brace, but those weren't around much back then.

I don't need four doors, but I do need space for my workout gear, random P-car parts, boxes, etc., so I like the extra space. The sloping "fastback" rear of our RSX-S limits rear room. Also, the shooting brakes tend to be just a wee bit more sporty than the above-pictured station wagon.

Every once-in-a-while, that picture of the 944 shooting brake shows up. That would be great!

Well, here you go then.

They're available, roomy, and dirt cheap too. The HP mod du jour is installing the engine from a 1985 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, which is a bolt-in, they say.

comes from the 19th century. Essentially a wagon for hauling dead animals

Does "shooting brake" usually refer to a 2 door wagon? That's been my impression.

The older Rolls & Bently "shooting Brakes" seemed to all be 2 doors.

Those were nice looking wagons, the glass rear door may have been a first on a production wagon.

Things in life I will never own:
Station wagon, minivan, SUV.

I believe in owning:
A sports car for fun.
A pickup truck for hauling stuff.
A touring sedan for hauling people.

Luckily my wife and two daughters agree!
