There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, Native Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans.

Terms like "White boy," "Cracker," "Honky," "Whitey," "Caveman"... are O.K. But if someone uses Nigger, Towel-head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink ... they're a racist.

There is the United Negro College Fund, Martin Luther King Day, Black History Month, Cesar Chavez Day, NAACP, and BET.

If some had WET (White Entertainment Television) ... they're racists. If someone started White Pride Day.. they would be called racists. If they had White History Month .. they'd be racists. If they had any organization for only whites to "advance" their lives ... they'd be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that?

If they had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships... You know they'd be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US , yet if there were "White colleges" .. THAT would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, men believed that they were marching for their race and rights. If white men marched for their race and rights (Sadly some do), they'd be racists.

It is O.K. to be proud to be black, brown, yellow and red, and not be afraid to announce it. But if someone announced their white pride ... they'd be racists.

I don't get it. Why is it that only whites can be racists?

Other races can be racist. No one ever said they can't. As for the other points, what part of hundreds of years of oppression don't you understand? There is no equivalence in the weight of various terms.

Then why does no one scream racism when there are Black only colleges, Black scholarships... Please understand, I am against racism. I just think that there is a reverse prejudice happening in America.

Por_sha911, It is just the simple reality of our time. I personally never was involved in any "oppression" of any race and it chaps my butt that I have to pay the price for the past injustices by having these special intrest groups forced upon me. This reverse discrimination is total bull***** and I can't wait until the public wakes up and say's enough is enough. How big is this debt that must be repaid anyway? Any organization, business, club or group that advocates special treatment for any minority only perpetuates the same racisim they profess to be fighting.

It takes, on average, 4 generations to erase the effect of discrimination. Since equal rights were only started to be enforced at large in the mid to late sixties, you do the math. All of your examples of "reverse discrimination" are only attempts at equailizing the imbalance. No-one said they are perfect, but what recourse are you offering? Anybody who is white in the US has a builtin advantage and enjoys the benefits of it, even if they don't see it.. How do you propose we do to overcome that?

Well, had people not been brought over here, they could still be being sold as slaves in Africa. Total BS, they are owed nothing, the Irish were discriminated against too, and we had to pay our way over. Why doesn't anyone go after the tribes who sold their own people into slavery??

Do as you want to and if you are prevented some service or privilege scream discrimination. If you are White and you are 'passed over' for another race and you have more qualifications then you have recourse.

I don't know all the ins and outs, but that's exactly what a few white UofM students did. They sued the University for discrimination when they were passed over for black students who had lower scores and grades, basically to fill a quota, and they won. So if you want to go to an all black college, sign up. When they don't accept cause you're white you can sue for discrimination and you'll win. They'll have to take you or pay you to go away or somewhere else. It's slowly changing cause it's all about 'equal rights'.

I hope you are not serious. I mean blacks were slaves. I don't recall from any of my history books of Irish being slaves. Were they discriminated against, maybe, so were the Italians, Scottish, Germans, Mexicans, etc... The Orientals are being target out on the East Coast as the ethnic group to attack these days, physically. Discrimination is still happening today whether you like it or not. By all races...

hey, the jews were slaves thousands of years ago, had to build the pyramids. hitler had a whack at them, the klan , well you know. hell, i feel like i have only been passing for white. now ,according to the reparations theory, does that mean that i can go door knocking in stuttgart and demand a porsche? i paid money for mine.
all this stuff needs to be learned from so it does not happen again. i am including blacks and red indians in this too. lets all get past it , but learn from it. history is not always pretty.
i have discovered that my predjudice is against the maliciously stupid, not the harmless stupid. by the way, that evil stupidity cuts across all lines, be they racial , religious, political, etc.

My great, great grandparents were indentured servents. What do I get for that, butkus! Todd, I gotta disagree with you, calling me a cracker is offensive to me, and if calling someone else a nigger is offensive to them, whose to say he has more right to be outraged than I do. I detest bestowing a certain "pass" on one group of people over another based on anything, you should too. And what's with the Indians being able to own casinos, but no one else? Sure they got screwed and stuck on a reservation, but in todays world you know what that means? I don't pay my property taxes, I get my land taken away, I don't pay my income taxes, I get thrown in jail, they don't pay any taxes on income they earn (including gambling) on the reservation. Yeah, I know the states negotiate a "fee" with them on their revenues from gambling. Nothing is stopping an Indian living on a reservation from getting on the bus and going to the city and looking for work, just like I did when I moved to CA on my own dime 27 years ago with no guarantee of success and no safety net.

Didn't answer the question. No, I'm not a racist, I just believe people should be judged/treated on their merits. For example, UCLA is bemoaning the fact that "only" about 98 blacks got into its freshman class this year out of some 4,000. Guess what, my 4.0 honors student daughter was also got National Honor Society and got her Girl Scout Gold Award ( the equivalent of the Boy Scout Eagle) couldn't get in. Exactly how much do we have to lower the standards, I believe that is called the soft racism of low expectations.

You're absolutely right, but nobody but scholars seem to want to acknowledge this. Slavery, as wrong as it is, is as old as mankind itself. Blacks indeed enslaved other blacks. Throughout history, on all continents, groups of people enslaved others who were not able to defend themselves.

What a horrible human legacy, eh?

And, yes. There is a double standard when it comes to racial tolerance, with whites held to a much higher standard than other groups. However, I suppose that's the price white people pay for the long period of domination and enslavement that their ancestors inflicted upon black people.
