Oh, a MIN-PIN? Those things are spring-loaded cockroach-brained pieces of excrement. Argh. I feel for you man.
No, you are not a dick.

No Dick. They are the guests, let them act like it. They need to respect you and your home. Merry Christmas

Years ago, I had a cousin who owned one of those yippy-yappy little wastes of skin that she and her husband took everywhere and I mean everywhere. If they went out for a hamburger, the dog got one too. This little mutt was not very friendly and no matter whose house they went to, the dog acted like it owned the place, baring its teeth ad anyone and yappling in that high pitched squeal that made nails on a chalkboard sound soothing by comparison. We were at my aunt's house for the holidays and the dog was aggravating everyone and scaring the kids. After a while, I said aloud: "Gee, I wonder if "Rover" would fit in that new microwave?"
Suddenly, the dog was removed and locked safely in their station wagon. A pleasant time was had by (nearly) all. Case closed.

I don't get the shoe thing When I go to someone's home to give an estimate and they request (or infer by the stack of shoes at the door) that I remove mine, I explain that no carpenter will work in socks. Good bye. I don't get it still. Feet are oily and sweaty and sometimes stink (mine don't). My shoes will certainly wipe off cleaner than all the dead cells and moisture on people's feet. Not to mention bateria. Now, if it's a cultural thing, then I understand. I just don't work there. I did one job where I removed my work shoes every time I entered the home, probably over 50 times in one day. One was enough. I was assigned that job by another, or I wouldn't have even unloaded my tools. By the same token, I don't understand trades people bringing their dogs to a job. That's totally ridiculous. I've had helpers show up with a freakin' dog and they look at me like I'm going to have it come into someone else's house???!!! |

No you are not being a dick. If they are coming for the day there's no reason to bring their pet. If they are staying for longer they should board their pet. I have a couple of weiners and while I love them, they are a bit much around others. I think they are just wired that way. They love to bark and chase vermin and cats. I wouldn't impose on anyone by bringing them with me.
They can bring a picture of fido in his reindeer costume.

So what if U are being a dick...its your home and people should respect your wishes regarding your home. People sure don't give you any respect anywhere else.

It is ridiculous for someone to bring their little dog into someone else's house, doubly so if it is not well-behaved. Even if it were, it's just rude. Dogs will often piss in a strange house regardless of how well house-broken they are, they react to the smell of other animals in the house or (?)
Even a spoiled dog, (see my signature), can be left in a car or at home. I don't even like bringing my dog into someone else's home, it makes him nervous. Thinks I'm giving him away or something. When relatives are invited for an extended stay, it gets more complicated. Especially if it is immediate family. My parents always want me to come to MN. and stay with them, but they have a "no dogs" house, which is their right. (Kind of strange since we always had dogs growing up, but whatever). My step-father is a hunting/fishing type that had retrievers that were always filthy and lived in dog houses, never came inside. My dog is clean and well-behaved, and lives indoors. He sleeps on the couch when he feels like it, and has spent a lot of time in some cushy houses. If they let him in, he would drive them nuts because he is used to hanging out w/ the humans. If I go there for any stretch of time, I bring my dog and do not stay with them. (Don't really want to anyways). Sorry if I'm babbling, but once again you are 100% in the right to tell them to leave the dog at home or in the car. They probably don't want to leave him home because he will trash their house if left alone. |
