What Are You Doing Christmas Eve??

What Are You Doing Christmas Eve??

Well, for starters, I'm going to put on my Santa suit, and go visit a local old folks home, the girl that runs it use to work for us and rembered that we have Santas and that I send them to cheer up children living in group homes. So she asked if I would send Santa to visit the old people, I gladly said yes. If you have elderly family in assisted living, don't for get about them, I visit my Great Aunt Ruthy pretty often and always come out feeling better. So, if you have some free time on Christmas eve, take some cookies and visit home, many of these people don't have anyone left are sad & lonely this time of year.

Does the outfit ever confuse your dog?

My dog would sometimes look at me very suspiciously, sometimes half growl, if I even wore a hat.

Will meet a friend from China in NYC and then head to my folks' house in NJ. They'll go to church, which I cannot stand to do. They'll go in the morning, again at 8:00pm and again for the midnight service. And they'll nag me to go. But since they sing in the choir, I can't sit with them and I don't know anyone else at that church anymore, other than my high school girlfriend, whom I cannot stand to be around. She makes it a point of going to every Xmas Eve service in the hopes of seeing me and then parading her husband and two kids in front of me and then the phone calls start a few days later. I hate her. Last night my mom asked if my current gf wants to go to church with them. Yeah, a girl from Mainland China who won't know a single person in the church and also can't sit with my parents is really gonna wanna do that. I just wanna stay home, drink a lot and cook with some music on, play with the basset hound, etc.

My plan for Christmas eve:

1). Drive to Dallas on the 23rd early (like on the road at 5 AM). Spend that day with my wife's family and visit my mom.
2). Christmas eve is my wife's family's day, usually hang out and visit during the afternoon, watch the kids play. Football will be on, hopefully I can watch the Giants beat the Saints to help out the Cowboys. Dinner is the traditional Christmas ham, then all the gifts are opened. After we send the kids off to play with their new toys, we can sit around and drink a good cup of coffee and talk. After the kids go to bed, we drive over to my mom's house to set up Christmas morning. My sister and her husband are staying at my mom's house with their 3 kids, so by the time we get all 5 kid's presents set up, eat the cookies and milk, and talk it is usually midnight. Drive back to my wife's parents house and turn in.
3). Get up Christmas morning (at 6 AM thanks to my son), get dressed and take the kids over to my mom's house for Christmas day where they get their presents from my family and Santa. Spend the day at my mom's house with my side of the family.
4). Lunch on Christmas day is a standing rib roast with all the trimmings and some stuffed mushrooms that I absolutely love. I can eat a whole plate of those things. Dessert is either pumpkin or pecan pie....or both....multiple times....
5). Watch the Cowboys beat the Eagles to clinch the NFC East and get one step closer to a first round bye in the playoffs.
6). On the 26th is dinner at my grandmother's house with my extended family, which is 4 sets of Aunts and Uncles, somewhere around 20 cousins and something like 10 great-grandchildren. Full house.

That's about it.

Pickup the parents at the Airport. Have a wonderful dinner at "Backstreet", then off to the 10:30PM "Midnight" service. I don't go to church too often (Christmas, Easter, Palm Sunday, Ash Wednesday, maybe Epiphanny and a few other days mixed in the year), so it will make my wife and parents happy.

Bah humbug! I'd rather just hang at home with the family. All this shuttling back and forth to church 3x in one day is not my idea of fun. It's bad enough everyone in my family emails Xmas gift wish lists to each other. I'll ask my gf, but I highly doubt she'll want to go sit by herself for 90 minutes of stuff she doesn't understand or care about.

Our neighbors have an open house party from 4-6pm. Santa arrives around 5pm. Some of the girls in the neighborhood are becoming young women now...Santa always seems just a little to eager to have them on his lap.

After the party it's home with our three boys where they get to pick one gift to open. After they're all in bed for the night (hopefully) it's a mad dash to get everything wrapped and set up under the tree.

I'm usually still up for a little Christmas Eve nookie...we'll see how it goes this year. I've told the wife I'll be wearing the Santa hat if she wants me to.

Humbug is a fine tradition and someone needs to keep it going! Bully for you. But watch out for Marley in your dreams!

She might like it. Really. One Christmas in Japan I spent with my friend, her family and her Dad was a Pastor. Church functions all day (I barely understood any of it), and no gifts, fancy food or drink. Made me reconsider the mostly secular Christmas I was raised with and I really enjoyed the day..
