I personally like one well placed 500gr slug going about 2000 f/s.

I count 22 misses. Only ONE in the center. At what? 25 feet, 50 feet or what ?? Rapid fire or slow? I just did one last night that was ONE large hole in the center. That was 50 foot, rapid fire.

Pretty nice looking gun.

That was the paper I was talking about earlier. I think it was 5 yards, but I have no idea really. Everything seems closer than it is on the range.

Gun Control means hitting your target

You need more range time.

You're doing great.

Legion, just keep pressing the trigger and don't push it. Doing good on the center target, all the others have the 'usual' push-the-trigger effect: low and left. Let the 'bang' surprise you.

Nope; only PERFECT practice makes perfect, normal practice just makes you repeat the same errors over and over.

This is OT. Busting chops comes with the territory.

Yep, keep practicing, but you may want someone to critique your form, etc.

I'm looking into taking classes.

I shot at the target in this order:

2 3
1
4 5

The first clip (10 rounds), I just shot without really thinking about it. I spent more time sighting in on the subsequent clips (see where that got me). I never rushed.

I think at this point I just have to get more used to the sensation of shooting before I can start trying to improve my skill.

Besides...I don't recall anyone else posting pictures of their paper on this forum.

Here's a B-16 Bullseye target at 25 yds. This is from my Ruger Mark III 22/45, from a standing one handed position, using Wolf Match target ammo. The black center area is 5 and 5/8 inches diameter.

Scored 85/100

Actually Chris your doing fine... and if I were you I would go along with the certified gun nuts on the board (not the grumpy ones)and consider getting some input on improving your style. Just like any sport consulting a pro usually helps improve your game.

Now I have never had any formal training (other that shooting .22 rifles in boy scouts) and I can do a four inch group with my 9mm auto at 25 yards or a two (or less) inch group with my friend .357 at the same range. Used to drive my ex-Marine uncle crazy when we visited Kansas... he would take the "city boys" out to the range and let us fire off his guns... and he'd look at us funny and ask "are you SURE you never fired a gun before?"

But then again we were freaks... we used to make our own gunpowder in the garage and blow stuff up so YMMV

cz makes one of the most accurate out of box hand guns in or around your price range. match barrels standard. I have a freind who copmetes and wins nationally and he swears by them and not just because of the price. A good idea is to go to a gun range in your area. a lot of them have different guns that you can use for the day and see which one fits you best. think about a .40sw round. it's no more expensive to shoot and its a better round IMHO. also if its your first handgun, go to that same range and ask range master for some instruction. learning the proper way to shoot will help you with your chioce. good luck have fun be safe.
