All I could tell was it wasn't fiberglass. Exhaust didn't appear to be VW based. Older guy driving. I actually pulled along side to nab a better photo and "chat" . All I got was about 5 inches of the front end due to poor aim and traffic stopping in front of me.

The exhaust had some oil in inside of it and on the outside.
Gunk is a great degreaser and is water soluable.

After soaking in Gunk, water washes off any oil residue left remaining.

I flushed the entire exhaust system with gunk and water to fully cleanse the pipes.

Go to the auto parts store and pick up some high heat paint for that exhaust. The stuff holds up really well and works wonders for $5.

Otherwise, it's looking good. Can't wait to hear it run - all the way to redline! :eek:

Custom Mulholland Muffler
 

Thanks David, I can't wait either. I'll post more photos later today.

Note the exhaust:
It is "One Piece" and cannot be separated.
The muffler is actually bolted to the chassis, not to the motor.

This was neccessary because at high speed with all the bumps on Mulholland, the Carrera bottoms out occasionally even with RSR Torsion bars.
I throw a 20 foot shower of sparks on the big bump in westbound European Straight for example. The sparks come from hitting the flange between the headers and the muffler on asphalt.

Hitting the exhaust hard on the pavement made exhaust leaks appear so it was important to first weld the flanges together permanently (no more leaks), and to also fasten the muffler to the body with heavy brackets. This makes the muffler/header system very strong. Strong enough to take severe pounding.

This seemed to be the only solution other than adding a heavy skid plate.

Ignition prep
 

First thing to do today is do something about those oil lines and half-shafts hanging down. Impossible to work under there until that is taken care of.

Stainless oil lines are lining the underbody and go to the motor at their appropriate places.
Here is the connection to the engine oil cooler.
Note the Koni double adjustable shocks. A dial at the bottom and an adjuster at the top of the shock adjusts bounce and rebound, without removal. Nice!

Here is the stainless oil line going to the engine on the driver's side.
Line clamps hold the stainless steel oil lines to the transaxle and underbody.
