Ignition prep
Now that those oily, oil lines are fastened and out of the way, it's time to set the half-shafts.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218769831.jpg Gotta re-pack those CV joints with Moly grease, always a treat! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218769854.jpg Now everything is a go underneath. Oil lines, axles, clutch cable installed, and all throttle linkage is lubricated and connected (sweet). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218769876.jpg |
Ignition prep
All wiring is hooked up and ready to go.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218770031.jpg We are close to ignition in...10...9...8... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218770051.jpg Dave M. came over and adjusted his 911 clutch this afternoon. Thanks again for helping me line up my half-shafts Dave. Much appreciated. It was a beautiful day although somewhat humid. Thunderheads were visible over Mulholland and over the San Gabriels in the distance, very nice. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218770081.jpg |
Racing oil
This morning I stopped by TRE to get two cases of Brad Penn-Penn Grade SAE 40.
Thanks Jeremy for helping me decide on the right grade, much appreciated. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218839012.jpg After connecting the speedometer cable, the starter wires, and adjusting the clutch cable, I started to finish fastening the stainless steel oil lines at their clamps. Just a couple of minutes and I was bit by some kind of spider. If you look carefully in this photo you can see them lining the underside of the transmission tunnel. I went upstairs for some hydrocortisone to lessen the effects of the bite. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218839059.jpg |
Last Preparations
Sway bar installed.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218845858.jpg Shift linkage connected. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218845894.jpg New Mahle air filter. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218845935.jpg |
Hey, you're still alive? Sure you weren't bit by a baby black widow? I saw some nice egg sacks under the fenders yesterday.

Last Preparations
The old orange air filter is a Knect filter.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218846170.jpg Nothing like a fresh air filter. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218846186.jpg A Mahle oil filter replaces the old orange Purolator oil filter. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218846203.jpg Here we go, ready to flow... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218846232.jpg |
That was the biggest turnout yet. It was nice to the regulars again, as well as meeting some of the other guys that have been posting to the thread. I wonder who those cops were after? They came speeding up with the lights on, but then turned them off when they came up to us and disappeared up the dirt road...
Two pix form the evening.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218865843.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218865855.jpg See you next time! SmileWavy |
A great evening.
What a great evening it was. We must have had over 30 guests total during the night's gathering.
Here's the full moon rising over the Racecourse on Mulholland. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218866056.jpg After meeting at Truckstop, we drove to Dirt Mul where we parked, talked, and looked at cars. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218866099.jpg Hardly any traffic here at night. It makes for a good place to park and hang out. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218866133.jpg |
A great evening.
I brought water and soft drinks for anyone who was thirsty.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218866227.jpg It looked like everyone had a great time and had fun meeting new friends. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218866257.jpg This custom 944 Porsche had a Renegade Hybrid Conversion Chevy 5.7 liter aluminum V8 and it is fast. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218866309.jpg Here's a close up of the engine. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218866335.jpg |
A great evening.
Here's two thread regulars, Dave (Slodave), and Alerick (Noah930).
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218866563.jpg More thread regulars. Slodave, Banning, Mulhollandose (Jason says hello to Pelican) and Jeff Hailpern. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218866581.jpg We got a group photo at Dirt Mul before everyone had left. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218866610.jpg |

It was good to meet up with you guys. I had a good time, David

It was a great turn out. Sorry I didn't make it to dirt Mul. Tire got too soft for those twisty roads and my ride handles like a truck to start with.
|
A little late posting pics of last nights event. Was nice to meet new faces and check out some interesting machinery. Great turnout. I think others would agree a freight train crossed Mul last night. The spirit is still alive.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218932697.jpg Camera was on funky mode or those little balls are back Dave? (Only happens in two places?) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218932712.jpg |
After everyone left I headed to Sunset for great food and rock and roll (somethings never change). I met up with old friends and a former twenty year ago girlfriend.
On the way back at 430am my friend (ex) and I detoured across the hill. Cars were parked at Carls, Carls Jr and Deadmans enjoying the views. We parked for some "memory lane" and "remember when"?. A full moon and a little patchy fog added to the memories. Some of the best times on the hill are early am. Quiet and peaceful. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218937584.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218937597.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218937608.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218937620.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1218937631.jpg Ended up stopping at Twains for breakfast. Twains has not changed since 1980. How many old timers remember when it was a Denny's? That ancient cash register is still at the front counter along with the brown decor. They just started excepting credit cards this year. Mr. Clemens has since passed away from our old racing days haunt but the waitress (with the limp) still works there and is 87 years old. Geez! Interesting trivia I never knew until this morning. How did Twains get its name? What is Mark Twains real name? Samuel Clemens! Twains/Clemens -hum? |
I've always known that place as Twain's. I went to highschool literally just up the street from that establishment. So it's been Twain's since the mid-80s, I think. Never really paid attention to that. I've never even set foot in the place, actually. I remember when the supermarket kitty korner from Twain's used to be a Hughes.

Let's go back a little further, about 1960. Across from Twains (Dennys) to the east is Sportsmans Lodge. As a boy, I used to go fishing there. They would supply you with a fishing rod and authentic fishing creel. You could catch Trout in the lake, then they would clean it for you right there, and then you would take it home to cook for dinner. It was quite unusual. One block further east is where the famous Rennaisance Faire used to be. I went to the 2nd or 3rd Faire as a young boy right there on Ventura. This was years before it was annually held in Thousand Oaks at Kanan and the Ventura Freeway. By the time it appeared at Kanan Road (late 60's?), it had grown into something big. Unfortunately for us, a City Councilman pushed for developing that beautiful Oak tree filled valley just south of the freeway and it is now a housing tract. The Faire had to move it's location again. I've always wondered how much the Councilman was "paid off" for ruining one of the most lovely places in the Santa Monica Mountains. Oh well, can't stop that damn "progress" and what it does to the quality of our lives. LOL |
Dang! We missed quite a bit going on here.
Radu and his girly, Chris, and I were all up at Monterey Historics. Wow, am I beat. |
