Not as hard as it seems and can be quick - enough to blur the image. :) The problem is the video camera that usually records at the same time. It will catch the plate before it changes.

I went to look at my old Carrera receipts, in an old Pierce college folder that I used when I attended in there in 1973.

There are many old reciepts for the Carrera in the folder.
One of them is the first reciept for the tires that are on the car now. It was from Carrol Shelby Ent.

The Carrera uses 9 by 15 wheels in front and 11 by 15 wheels in the back.
The sizes needed are 24.0 x 8.0 - 15 for the front and 25.0 x 10.5 - 15 for the rear. Those are Bluestreak sizes.

With many options available for tires, I believe that it's important to be period important and hunt for what has proved to be great tires, therefore we are going to stick with Bluestreaks, no pun intended. ha ha.
They never let me down (unless they ran out of air). Sorry, couldn't resist that one.



By the way, the potholes have been repaired, west of Coldwater. ;)

Calabasas. Take the Ventura Fwy to the Valley Circle exit, and head south. Immediately south of the highway, to your left, is a huge mini-mall parking lot with Village Coffee Roasters and a bunch of other stores. Village Coffee Roasters "organizes" it. There are also a CVS, supermarket, Hooper Camera store, Taco Bell, etc. in the strip mall. Last Sunday of the month is the big meet, with usually 100 or so cars. But guys (30 or 40) will show up every Sunday morning. Hard core guys start showing up around 7:30. I think we usually go around 9 to 9:30.

I called Roger Kraus Racing at about 3 this afternoon and talked to Joe.
I told him that I needed racing tires for my RSR, with 9 and 11 inch wheels.

He said that my tires have been discontinued long ago but suggested some alternatives. The available Bluestreaks are listed below.

The 5.50-15 tires are very close to the front tires on the car now. The main difference is that they are 1.5 inches taller.
Who knows? The floor jack may fit finally under the front with these tires.

Joe said that the closest that I could get to the rears were with the 6.00-15 tires.
They are only a half an inch taller that what I am using. However they are made for a 10 inch width wheel maximum. Joe will talk to Roger to see if it will work.
Let's hope it's a go.

Note that instead of $85.00 each like the old ones, they are now $247.00 each (Yeoww!)

Hmmm, Supercar Sunday may be a good pre- New Years test of the ol Blue car?

I was afraid of that.

Michelin TB5 and TB15 tires are an option for 9&11x15 Fuchs. Unfortunately they're about $500/each.

Christmas 2008
 

After making sure that this was the best option, I ordered the Goodyear tires for the Carrera. They will be very close to what is on the car now. The rear tires are in stock. The fronts which are for a 9 inch wide wheel are not in stock and will be delivered from the Goodyear manufacturing plant on Jan 5. I will have all tires by Jan 8, the anniversary of this thread.

I wanted to drive it before I get the tires to get it registered. Joe told me that as long as the old Bluestreaks still hold air and the cracks are not too deep, go, but drive mellow and carefully. I guess that's the deal then. Better disconnect 2 sparkplugs, just kidding.

Yesterday I visited Kevin and Dave B.
They have been very helpful and have given me good information on registering the Carrera. Thank you both.

Dave actually drove my car and took it home (1975) before I ever drove it when it belonged to Arnie V. Dave knows more about the early history of my car than I do, ;)
Coincidentily, Dave said that Arnie came by his shop the day before, small world, isn't it?

King of the Mountain
 

Peter Brock was a real King of the Mountain.
He was a fantastic driver, racer, and human being.
His favorite expression was "Live Life".
He will be missed.

Wrong Peter Brock I think. That video was the Australian driver killed (ironically) in a Daytona reproduction in '06.

I hope that the American Peter Brock of BRE and Cobra Daytona fame is still with us.

THAT Pete Brock (not the Ocker king of Bathurst Hill) is still alive and kicking; I see him a couple of times a year. You can read his ALMS coverage and see his and wife Gayle's photography in EXCELLENCE magazine (among other places). He and his family have revived Brock Racing Enterprises as BRE2, featuring Superformance Daytona Coupe parts and even full BRE decal sets for your 240Z or 510:

Australian Pete Brock
 

That's right Jim.
The video is about the Australian Racer Peter Brock. He held the title of King of the Mountain for many years in the well-known Australian race that was a hillclimb, kind of like an Australian "Pike's Peak" race like we have in America.
I followed his career during the past decade, he was a great competitor.

Note: As Nine17 said, the other Pete Brock is doing great. He is well known from the past for his BRE Datsuns, performance parts, and racing achievments.

Bathurst's not a hillclimb like Pike's Peak, but a circuit race. "The Mountain" refers to the Mount Panorama circuit in New South Wales, and Peter Brock's "King of the Mountain" title refers to his nine wins in the Bathurst 500 (now 1000 km) circuit race. The cool thing is that the circuit, like Mulholland Drive, is up in the hills, made up of closed roads like Le Mans. Check out this fast lap:
