![]() Many of you remember the old Dean Martin Golf Course that never became a golf course. He filled in Beverly Canyon just west of Franklin Canyon on Mulholland with mountains of dirt in the early 70's. Us locals used it daily as a unbelievable fun place to play with our dirt bikes, baja bugs or whatever. The smiling face in the photo above is me having way too much fun at the jumps at the far southern end of the "golf course" (Mulholland visible in upper left corner). Today we know this place as the very exclusive and expensive, Beverly Park where homes sell for many millions of dollars. |

![]() When the car was complete enough to drive but missing glass, polished wheels, and interior, I drove to Mulholland Hwy one Sunday morning and took this photo, 1976. To answer your question, the car is complete and still runs. All it needs is current registration and the Mechanical Fuel Injection Pump cleaned out. It laquered after sitting to much time from the 1994 earthquake taking my house to the ground flat. I will drive it again. |

Also, you're quite welcome for the previous thanks. I personally feel like i've contributed a tiny tiny tiny bit in resurrecting all these stories and bringing people back together here by starting this thread. And to think, I was just interested in the car! ![]()

Banning, If you don't mind me asking did you do the metalwork on the car? The reason I ask is that while working for A.I.R. there was a chop top 911 go thru the shop. I don't recall why it was there and if memory serves me right it was in and out quickly w/o any work being done on it. I also recal someone by the name of Greg Robinson(went by the handle GR) having a chopped 911 in his shop for a while. I'm just wondering if this was the same car.

![]() We used to go up there after school and bag lizards with our one pump Daisys. Then it was on to Honda Mini trails..great place to ditch cops as they couldn't follow us into the place-we would give them the one finger salute then escape out the south end down Beverly drive. When we got to the car stage I was sliding my baja bug around one of the corners on the"track",and caught a edge of some bedrock... with all that positve camber and swing axle she was over in an instant.John Hall was my riding mechanic for that one,we end ended up on our side laughing- until he decided to unbuckle his lap belt and land on me like a few sacks of reddi crete ![]() |

Arnie did some of the bodywork. However he had someone working with him that was a metalworking genius, I think Don was his name. As I recall he is the one that replaced the fiberglas flares with Porsche steel ones and did the lay'd back roof. It's really not a chop top since it takes a stock windshield. Cuts were made at the cowl panel and roof line and the roof was simply pushed back. This effectively lowered the roof line 2 inches. Also the drip rails were cut making for much smoother lines and the rear window was brought flush for aerodynamics. The front and back was clipped to accomidate the later style bumpers making it look like a 1976 modified Turbo Carrera somewhat. The whole body was acid dipped to remove about 400 pounds of metal, sound deadener and undercoating. Less weight, faster car. Many more modifications were done. I will list them later.

It's snowing outside, I'm drinking whisky, and just read the whole thread. No better scenario. Better than any book I've read lately. Great history and stories. Bet there are many more. CB, glad you're posting. I encourage you all to collaborate for the next edition. Meanwhile, I'm buying the book...

![]() Here is a photo of the infamous John Hall in his Mulholland prime with the modified 911L. This picture was taken in my driveway probably not long after I welded on the steel flares, about 1978. As Mark remembers correctly, John used less than 2 gallons of Bondo to smooth the car out. But don't be fooled by weight or small displacement, John could ride that little puppy like a raging bull and was one of the fastest on Mul. By the way, John was my Best Man at my wedding in '92 and we still talk regularly. |

![]() Here is the reason the Carrera hasn't been running. My house fell on me in 1994. I built a new house in the same location that is super strong, being buried once is enough. If you look carefully, you can see me looking up at the Helicopter in the bottom of the photo. Also the steel building on the right was the shed where I stored the Carrera for years, now it's in a temperature controlled garage inside the house. This image was used as a backround on channel 4 weather for a week after the quake. |

![]() This series of photos are from the racecourse. John Hall took these pictures of his own car with Dave Gainey driving, about 1977. The car is the notorious ACR Camaro, very fast, especially with John at the wheel. After John crashed it, I bought it and used the 4 piston caliper disc brakes, and positraction rear-end on my SCCA Camaro. ![]() The SCCA Camaro, fully prepped and painted. Bare metal floors, roll cage, Corbeaus, fire system, window nets, Guldstrand Suspension, Double adj. Konis, oversize swaybars in solid bushings and solid end-links, solid subframe bushings, M22 rock-crusher transmission, built LT-1 motor with solid lifters, Crane roller rockers, 2.02 heads, flash ground/balanced/magnifluxed forged rods, forged steel crank, TRW forged aluminum hi-compression pistions, Edelbrock Scorpion Tarantula intake, Holley 850 double-pumper, Unilite distributer, Milodon right and left hand turn deep sump oil pan, Hooker exhaust, and a few other little tricks. With the racing tires, this machine was scary fast. Lots of noise and vibration, it was sorted out on Mul. and did fairly well at Riverside International Raceway on two weekends of Drivers School and two races. |

![]() I thought you guys would like to see what a copy of an original flyer put out by the MRA looks like. Probably late 60's or very early 70's. If anyone knows the date for sure, please go ahead and speak up. |

![]() Before building the Mulholland Carrera in 1975, I rode this Dunstall Norton English Racing Motorcycle. Going to the Rock Store on Mulholland Highway on Sunday mornings was an experience that everyone should have. The Rock Store is world famous as a biker hangout from the 60's. It still is going on to this day, very crowded now. Harleys on one side, racers on the other. Some things never change... |

![]() I love all these companies that like to rip-off Mulholland and use it's name like they really know what Mulholland is all about. This company is in Florida? And how about Mulholland Shocks and the Mulholland Edition Prowler etc, etc,.......... Check out the Mulholland Madness ride at Disney's California Adventure. I guess it's all flattery.. at least I hope so. |
