That blue biturbo has been making the rounds. It's been around on the 'net, and it made the New Years Run at TRE.

I don't care for the cut-off bumper. Just looks like a hack job. I'd rather see a heavily-perforated one or maybe even none at all, but having part of the bumper being all puffy like that and then just ending in the middle looks weird.

Ya, the second set of photos confirm it is Bisimoto but the first set of pics I swear one of them looked just like the building across from Kundensport where they stored their parts.

At this point it doesn't matter. There are 1000's of tuner shops in SoCal. If they want us snooping around, they will let us know. If not, peace.

I'm still in for the story no matter where it goes an who it's about.

There was an article lately in the Times about Bob's Big Boy in Toluca Lake. I've been there. In fact I chauffeured Grady Clay when he was here. Good stuff.

When I was in high school and jr college we had a circuit of drive-ins to hit that numbered about 7 inside 3 cities. You could plan on about an hour and a half to make the full circuit or stay to the most local five and cruise each within and hour with maybe a street race along the way.

I'm giving some thought about jotting down some notes about those days. Here's just a thought about the hijinks that went on: I'm parked in the front row under the long curved deco fluorescent lights. I got all my hardtop windows down, of course, with the door mounted trays hung in the window channels. They had steering wheel mounted trays too, but they weren't cool. Besides, they could tip.

Guy in the next spot has a 2 door hard top with power windows. He is sitting there seemingly minding his own business waiting for the car hop on skates to bring out his order. I think he's getting bored. He hangs his elbow over the door sill and hits the window up button. He feigns surprise and quickly pulls his arm in. After studying the door situation for a moment, he returns his arm to the outward position.

The window all of a sudden goes up again to his feigned consternation. He refuses to pull his arm off the rising window and commands, "Get down you butthole!" To which the window with its own mind does comply. Seconds pass (great comedic timing here) and the window begins its rise only to meet the command. They go back and forth until the occupants of 10 cars in the first row are LTAO.

Ventriloquism with a power window. One of a 1000 drive in stories.

It has been highly modified and was getting ready for paint when the owner (a world famous tuner) decided to stop, sell it, and move on.

It is a 1973 911T Targa that was running last year. It currently has a non-op on it and can be driven legally as soon as it has a motor and transmission.

This is more my kind of project, I love '70 thru '75 911s.

Thanks for that Jeff. Yes, I will not publish another book unless it is worthy of reading. I'm not a writer by trade which is why I chose to have a co-writer on The Mulholland Experience. Having a partner is usually a mistake, too many chiefs in charge makes for a bad recipe as was evidenced by the poor editing of the book.
I would make corrections, and later my co-writer would erase my corrections, very frustrating. No more of that is going to happen.

Just a few more interviews, and about 30 more great photos, and we are ready to assemble and format. Still a considerable amount of work to do well. It will happen.

As far as those relics over the hill in the racecourse, I documented them on a map very carefully over the course of many weeks. Took many photos.
Those photos and the map I carefully created showing all the locations of the relics will be in the next book in a chapter entitled, "Over The Hill".

I find it interesting that half of the photos of car wrecks the author posted are not recognizable and probably not from The Racecourse. Many other important cars were not photographed for some reason. I wonder if the author even went down very far over the cliff. We searched it to the bottom. It was fun albeit hazardous. lol

When the flatbed arrived at my house, he refused to go down my street, "too steep" he said.

So, I created a racing bucket using an old cardboard box, and Presto!
Now I could drive it home, LOL
Must have gotten up to 40 down the driveway, YeeeHawww!

This - a thread on cruising back when would would give us old farts a chance to share some great stories. I spent way too many Friday and Saturday nights cruising from Bob's Big Boy on Van Nuys Boulevard up to the A&W and back looking for girls and races. Good times!

Since the car is open to the elements at the moment, I thought it best to move it to the Carport. Also that way I can work on it and be in full shade during the day.

Notice the car has 930 flares in steel. This work was just performed and is excellent. The seams inside the fender are almost indectable.

Porsche preliminary check cont.
 
The Engine Compartment looks pretty good.
Oil tank still in position. Cables, throtte rod, heater ducts, etc, all intact.
The 915 shifter is missing but I have a new one in the shed. Circuit board is missing.
I discovered I also have a spare MFI curcuit board by chance, so, we can install the engine and transmission when they are ready.

Not sure about this large style rear bumper.
It is nice that it is light weight, but hmmmnn.
Wouldn't a 1974 RSR fiberglass rear bumper look better?

The front end also has a light weight front bumper. (also needing a 74 front end?)
Between the front and rear bumpers, the RS America side trim has been installed, it is a fiberglass piece laminated to the body.
The style of the car is that of a RS America which is a beautiful car but not sure if this car likes the treatment. ;)

Inspection over
 
By now most of you are wondering what will Banning do with this "Targa".
That's what I was thinking the day it came home to Mulholland.

I do not wish to offend any Targa lovers out there, but this won't do for my "sports purposes".

To tell you the truth, I bought it for other reasons and didn't care if it was a Targa or Coupe.
But after looking it over carefully and seeing the beautiful bodywork someone did...
Around 6 thousand dollars in bodywork was just done, and I paid 3k for the car.

And how close it is to running again, I thought...
Wait a minute!

We can save it.

In the 1970's some of my Mulholland friends really liked off-roading in their Baja Bugs.
You could race Dirt Mul all the way to Topanga and back, it was awesome.

George Phelps, someone a little older than myself who lived near Mulholland and Beverly Glen, rolled his Baja.

Disenchanted with the car now, he sold it to me for $500. This was a really well prepped Baja, white spoke wheels, tubular bumpers, the expensive kit with the headlights in the fenders, etc.

I bought a Bug roof with no dents for $25 in Santa Monica.
Using the windows as my guide, I carefully fit the new roof measuring all the time.

It looked like it had never been in an accident when I was done and the windows and doors fit perfectly.



You can see that I have asked Ruben to do something to the car.
What do you think he is doing?
