That just makes the racing more exciting.
Kinda like the HotWheels sets with the trapdoors in the track. Will your car make it through? Or will it fall through the roadway into the giant shark's mouth below? |
Racers start your engines. Street racing is now unofficially legal in Los Angeles County. How awesome is that? No more hiding, no more secretive websites that require a password to find out where to meet up, no more running from the cops, because all they are going to do is send you to a meeting that will not appear on your record, which means no points or license suspension and best of all your car won't be impounded.
It's too bad everyone's favorite canyon course is closed, hopefully it gets fixed before November, I'd love to watch people go flat out legally on the course. Have a great time racing while you still can. This is a gift, take advantage, but please be safe and don't endanger innocent lives. https://youtu.be/-wACbNZQlp0?si=xslE-Aj56ca45Mtt |

Hi Chris, Happy New Year! Our exhibit "We Are Porsche" has been very successful and so well received by the public that we have decided to extend its display. The loan of your car is part of what has made it so popular. Therefore, we would like permission to continue to have your vehicle on view. The last public day will be Sunday July 12. I have attached a loan agreement for your review and signature with a new end date of July 26 to have your loan returned. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about this request. I look forward to hearing from you. I signed a new loan agreement to extend the length of the loan. Apparently, the Curator of the Porsche Museum in Germany took special interest in the Mulholland Carrera. I thought that was somewhat unusual since there are so many other important and famous Cars on display. Of course, I felt honored and flattered by that news. It was totally unexpected. ;) |
Landslides
I received this email notice at the end of February from the Benedict Canyon Association.
ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES FROM RECENT STORMS Benedict Canyon There is a lane closure on Benedict Canyon near Mulholland/ 2940 Benedict Canyon Drive. A washout developed approximately 60-ft long, 10-ft high, and undermining the roadway by 5-ft. The northbound lane is currently closed to vehicles, and the area is being manned by LADOT to assist in directing traffic. $879,000 is being moved into an account to allow Bureau of Engineering to commence repairs on this road as quickly and safely as possible. Northbound 405 Offramp to Mulholland The northbound offramp from the 405 to Skirball and Mulholland has been closed due to a sinkhole. Repairs are the responsibility of CalTrans and the ramp is closed indefinitely. Mulholland Closed Mulholland Drive West between Skyline Drive and Coldwater Canyon Drive is also closed due to a landslide. Repair time estimates are not currently available. There are over a dozen large landslides and mudslides all around my Neighborhood. Two are 2 on my property like this one from my Neighbor's house across the street. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709499248.jpg |
Fallen Trees
Many Trees have been falling on Coldwater, Laurel, Beverly Glen, and Benedict Canyons like the big Eucalyptus Tree that fell the day Magnus Walker was at my house with the Petersen Museum. We were all stranded inside until a nice Neighbor allowed us to use their driveway to get to Mulholland.
Last Tuesday I was wondering why I was not getting any Mail delivery. The USPS site said that there was no access. So I walked up the driveway and saw a large tree had fallen and was blocking it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709500151.jpg I knew Trash pickup was the next morning and I had to get the driveway cleared. Using hand Saws I was able to cut it up enough to move most of the branches. The main Trunk was so heavy and large I couldn't move it but I was able to pull it down to the house using ropes and the El Camino. Got it cleared in 3 hours. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709500435.jpg |
After a few months I finally finished the thread and let me say, this could be one of the most well documented topics on the internet. It's funny to think I was only 6 years old when it started in 2007 haha, and here I am today infatuated and obsessed with racing history and especially Mul history. The night I finished the thread I remember dreaming I was hanging out at deadman's and was astounded at how little police activity there was haha, if only dreams were real. I had always known a little about Mr. Banning and the Rsr but when it was first announced that it was going to the Petersen I had to go see it, and quickly I found this thread. I took notes on everything I found important and/or cool, and pretty soon I became the Mul historian among my buddies. I live in Bakersfield CA and have been going to school at Auburn U in auburn Alabama, and when I got the premature news that the Rsr would only be at the Petersen until April, I knew I had to fly back home over my spring break to go see it one more time. ill definitely be back to see it a third time this summer that it got extended lol. I kinda didn't pay attention to class from January til February because I was so imminent on finishing the thread before my break in March. I finished reading, flew home, and rallied 2 buddies and my dad to hop in my dads 2013 Panamera turbo to go down and see the crown jewel. I think people thought I was a docent because I stood next to the Rsr for about 45 min telling every story I knew hahaha. it was cool seeing the corvette exhibit in there at the same time since everybody talks about how similar Charleys car was to a gran sport

Amazing how many generations are affected. When I moved to CA and started my Porsche journey I was the young generation and these stories were old. Now you are the young generation and your journey is from this this old ass thread, that started before you could use the computer by yourself. amazing.

We were there March 2nd and it was closed skyline to bowmont. Parked on skyline and walked up to Carls, then brought the cars back around to Bowmont. I thought that shot was cool with the book on the Panamera's roof and my buddy's b5 s4 in the background. To say I had goosebumps was an understatement haha. My buddy had to head home but when we watched him cruise past grandstands even slightly at 4k rpm it was surreal and you could just feel the energy from the place. We went as far as dirt Mul and my dad was impressed when I named almost every intersection from Coldwater to Encino hills haha. |
When I flew back to Alabama for school a few days later it felt like mission accomplished haha. I can't wait to get back and go up to my road in Bakersfield and go back to Mul, even tho it probably won't be repaired before I'm back in May for summer break. I do my fair share of partying for sure haha but I always find myself in the corner of a bar or party on the phone with a buddy talking about driving stories or imagining myself up at Mul or the local road. can't wait to get my car back home too, as I drive to and from school every summer. I got an 08 mustang gt 5spd, slowly upgrading suspension in search to be the quickest on my local road. It has over 8800 cross country miles on it so far and 6600 to go I think before I graduate. Here was it after a pretty hard run on Highway 58 from Bakersfield/Mckittrick to Santa Margarita near San Luis Obispo. car loves eating bugs at 110+ haha

Took pops' car up to my road when I was back in March, (don't tell him):D , here's it parked up at our "grandstands" we call it Lookout for obvious reasons. Great view of east Bakersfield oil country. Played with sport chrono for a bit, pretty cool feature on these newer Porsches. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711059167.jpg average speed was about 73mph, pretty great for only going like 6 or 7/10ths haha, nothing quite like a Porsche http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711059280.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711059280.jpg cool views back in town, taken at Panorama Park in Bakersfield. Our road is off in the distance just out of view to the right. I told my buddy with the white s4 everything about the MIRRC, and he got inspired to make hats and license plate frames with our "team" name RMRC (round mountain racers club) haha. When I graduate from Auburn U we plan on getting an apartment or house as close as we can to Panorama Drive in bakersfield because it overlooks our course (round mtn rd) You guys are the best ! If anybody finds themselves in Bakersfield id be happy to show you around or direct you to whatever you may need, including if you are interested on a place to do some "spirited" cruising haha. And if there is ever anything going on in the La area I'd love to check out more of the places history or do almost anything. lastly if anybody is interested in any San Luis/Morro Bay/Cayucos action I love few things more than Highway 58 and that area. --Tyler K. instagram- tkirschenman |
Glad you're enjoying the SoCal Mul scene. There is more, a lot more. The roads are still active west of the 405. Look up The Rock Store, etc.

Well, you've got me. I've been here all my life and I don't know where the snake is. Been on plenty of runs in the Santa Monica's. I'm age timed out of that stuff.

The Snake is the little bit of road beyond (west of) The Rock Store. From The Rock Store to the overlook at the top of the hill climb.
