Ha. It took me weeks to skim through it when I first found out about it five or six years ago.

I was so happy to finally see the car in person while in town last month. I just sat and stared at it for quite a while.

Thanks for the detailed pics. I always wondered what kind of shape it is in. Kinda looking at an old outlaw's gun.

I agree, it's kind of unreal. We came into this scene roughly at the same time. We were the young newbs then, and now we're a couple of the old guys. Just happy to see this thread is still alive and the legend continues... as long as Wayne keeps Pelican and the forums going anyway.

I went to the Petersen a couple weeks ago. I had no idea the car was there, but it was fun when I discovered it was. What a fantastic place...

I apologize if I am breaking some rules here, but it seems like the right place to ask this question. A lot of us participating in this thread street raced and there are a lot of stories in this thread about being chased down by law enforcement due to street racing.

I'm from the Bay Area and in HS I went out drag racing on Saturday nights with my friends, of course illegally. There were always spotters, people with scanners, and when the cops came or a call was heard on the scanner we were out of there, because we knew if we got caught there was a chance the cars would get impounded and we would lose our license and if you were a spectator they'd hit you with aiding and abetting or something along those lines. The cops didn't mess around.

Cut to present day. What the younger generation is getting away with in LA at least blows my mind. Cops where I'm from would have cuffed you and stuffed you for blocking an intersection while doing donuts and if there was a large group they would have surrounded the area and made sure they cited everyone. Today I watch a local news clip and LAPD is stating they can't do a thing, because there are no laws tough enough to curb what they are doing.

So my question is this, for those in the know, when did the laws change regarding reckless driving and street racing? Below is the video of the news report with some detailed information as to why they can't stop what's going on and it also includes some statistics.

About the Panel

Alwin Springer is a renowned figure in the automotive and racing world with a career deeply intertwined with Porsche's rich racing heritage. His journey from a technician in Canada to a pivotal leader in Porsche Motorsport is a testament to his skill, dedication, and passion for high-performance automobiles. His contributions have left an indelible mark on Porsche's racing success and inspired countless enthusiasts and professionals in the automotive industry.

Hans Lapine is a distinguished figure in the automotive design world, known for his pivotal role in not only creating some of the most iconic show cars for several companies in his past and present, pushing the boundaries of what is possible. His career started at the young age of 19 years old, as he joined Porsche AG in 1981 as an apprentice for PROTOTYPING and MODELMAKING. Following his passion for car design, he went on to work with Mercedes Benz, BMW and Hyundai Motor Group creating iconic designs like the Z1 Roadster among others. In 2023, he created the secretive innovation department of STUDIO-X, following in the footsteps of his father, Anatole Lapine, whose career started in STUDIO-X for General Motors. Hans has been racing Porsches from 18 years of age and still owns a significant number of classic production and competition Porsches.

Kerry Morse has been a behind the scenes figure for decades an automotive writer and historian, most notably as a passionate expert on Porsche’s contributions to motorsport. Morse has also been a consultant to Porsche, has overseen several major projects for the Volkswagen Group, and is currently involved in a book that details the development and history of the Porsche GT1.

Patrick Long is one of the most accomplished sports car drivers of his generation, as the lone American on Porsche’s roster of factory drivers from 2003 to 2021, Long clinched victories at the world’s premier endurance races, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Beyond racing, he founded Luftgekühlt, a celebrated event dedicated to air-cooled Porsches, blending historical vehicles with unique venues and lifestyle elements. Based in Southern California, he continues to compete in vintage racing and serves as a Brand Ambassador and Competition Advisor for Porsche Cars North America.

Porsche Perfection: An Exclusive Porsche Speaker Panel

Last Saturday I attended the Conclusion of the "We Are Porsche" exhibit at the event called "Porsche Perfection: An Exclusive Porsche Speaker Panel".
It turned out to be more interesting than I expected.

The Museum was closed but was open for this special Event.
At 6:30pm we were allowed in. A Check-in table was set up for the guests that were registered to attend.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1719956622.jpg

We were allowed to enter the Exhibit upstairs to see all the beautiful Porsches on display like this incredible Porsche 917/10 driven by George Folmer

Arriving in the Main Gallery you could see that some people were already staking out seats near the front.

This Gallery was also filled with some incredible machines like this Monstrously large
Rolls Royce with circular doors. Looks like it's 22 feet long. It's one of my favorite non-Porsche Cars in the Museum.

After about half an hour of food and drinks, many were seated.
It looked like between 200 and 300 people were in attendance.

You can see the Camera set-up as they were filming this Event because of it's importance.

Guest were asked to not video the Presentation since they will probably publish this later.

So I only took minor video, just the Introduction and Finale which I will download later today or tomorrow.

Patrick Long, the famous Porsche Racecar Driver that founded Luftgekult was the Panel leader as each guest re-counted many very cool stories about Porsche.

Stories about the creation of the 917 series, Vasek Polak and Andial development,
life events of each speaker concerning Porsche, design development of many Porsche models from the past, water-cooled development of the 924, 944 and 928 series and all the important Racecars that Porsche has created thru the years. There is too much information to re-count here.

These were personal stories that I found super interesting. I had met and had interaction with several of the famous Porsche people that were talked about so this was exciting to hear and reminisce about.

Porsche Perfection: An Exclusive Porsche Speaker Panel

After the Panel discussion, there was a question and answer session so members of the audience could ask questions directed to each particular guest on the Panel.

Before a personal Meet and Greet with the Panel members I talked to Patrick Long congratulating him on his fantastic career with Porsche Racing. He asked me to consider bringing the Mulholland Carrera to his Luftgekult 10 which will be held in Hollywood on October 5, 2024. He expects over 10,000 will attend.
I had previously declined his kind offer to attend the Luftgekult held at the Lumber yard a few years ago in the South Bay. We'll see about this fall.

It was a great Evening and I'm glad to have attended.
Thank you again to the Petersen Automotive Museum and to Jonee Eisen, one of the important Curators that made all this possible.

Mr. Merk 07-03-2024 05:12 AM

Pat is a hell of a nice guy.

I was hoping to see your car at one of the Luft events. I've been going since the one at the lumber yard in 2018. I actually drove out from Arkansas and displayed in 2018, 2019 and up at Indy in 2021. It would be great to see your car at Luft10. The back lot is pretty close to Mul and an incredible setting.

Porsche Perfection: An Exclusive Porsche Speaker Panel Conclusion

These are the final remarks and following short video of the Porsche Perfection Event.

I talked to Jonee who is one of the Curators of The Petersen Automotive Museum and he requested that I not publish the Introduction to the Event.

If you happen to like the Porsche 917 Engine, you may find the video interesting. ;)

"We Are Porsche" exhibit closing July 7th

The "We Are Porsche" exhibit is closing today, July 7th 2024.
This amazing exhibit will be replaced by some more incredible themed exhibits as soon as the Porsches have been moved out of the second floor.

Before the current Porsche exhibit closes, I was able to visit and take a few more videos.
The first one is a brief walk-thru of the Exhibit.
