Upper 90's? Derek, my weather station said it was 106 in the shade yesterday on Mulholland. That's not good even if it is air cooled. Last night it was 88 at 9:00pm, still not good. By monday it should cool off. Heck I want to fix two 911's, and its really not pleasant in this heat. Grease all over, sweat all over, and if you cut yourself on engine sheetmetal, the heat makes your blood run like water while mixing with the grease and sweat. I think that I would rather be hanging out by the pool at the Beverly Hills Hotel checking out the babes with my digital photo sunglasses on. |
This heat is unacceptable right now. Its 112 in the shade and climbing. Humid, sticky and crappy air quality. Chris made me paranoid that my blood will run like water if I get a cut mixed with sweat and grease. I was going to catch up on some welding. Not! So much for doing anything.

What a bunch of wussies!! Wed and Thurs eve we experienced power outages at home. Wed was from 7:00pm to 1:00 AM. Thursday was from 6:30 to around 9:00pm. Today I'm in the shop ripping the insulation out of the office walls due to a mold infestation. Try pulling 200sqft of fiberglass in this heat.

it's beyond HOT! Banning, you got to put a pool @ your place!
I thought I take it easy and just paint today. You can't paint with dry paint! My thermometer fell on the ground and broke. went out to investigate and this is what I saw: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1188678897.jpg |
doesn't that just eat sh!t
Van Nuys hits 106 so I head home to the air conditioned comfort that I know awaits me. I pull up to the house hit the button on the remote and the gate glides open. I pull in walk about 15 feet the house, open the door and I'm greeted by the cool air inside. I press the gate button next to the door and NOTHING happens. I notice the house is strangely quiet. No refrigerator noise. no table top fan. the ceiling fan is just coasting to a stop.
Damn powers out AGAIN!! Welcome to Sun Valley where "DWP" means" doing without power"!! |

Kevin, I feel for you. Poria incrassata (mold) is nasty stuff. Where a respirator or by Sunday you will have a sinus infection and chest cold. Been there! Today I will be a wussie due to heat because I can. You are right its more fun when its a hobby versus a living! |
Too damn hot
This is not my idea of sunny California right now........
All day the emergency broadcasts are airing on TV warning of flashfloods in north LA County. Some ominous clouds lurking around and that means lightning strikes in the hills. Not good. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1188686906.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1188686923.jpg On a positive note my thermometer is working flawlessly...... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1188686967.jpg |

14 hours with no power. I felt like I was living in some third world country. Lap top battery went flat, portable dvd player went flat. I spent most of the night sitting in my truck running the air and watching "Letters from Iwo Jima" and "Flags of our Fathers".

I used to live in Van Nuys right around the corner from Dave B. I used to come home from work in the summer and the thermometer on the thermostat in my apt. would be pegged at 120. Best thing I ever did was move to the So. Bay. Currently 78 on my patio but a bit humid and the sea breeze hasn't really kicked in. I can't dial down the AC because we don't have AC!
Could be worse, you all could be my buddy who went to the NASCAR race today at Fontucky. How'd you like to be in a crowded grandstand in 103 degree heat at a NASCRAP race. Yeehaa! I'm thirsty thinking about it. Think I'll go crack open a Fat Tire Ale. Cheers! Kurt O. |
VIEW FROM GRANDSTANDS BACK TOWARDS STUDIO CITY
New camera... nothing else to do this evening... after hiding from the heat all day. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1188796270.jpg |
Nothing to do? There's plenty to do! Just back from the airport, where I spent a few hours cleaning the engine a little and reinstalling the cam boxes. Tomorrow, Marco comes out and will help me with the cam timing. If all goes well, I will have my car on the road by the end of the week!

Two weeks! Its always two weeks. Ever since the beggining of time its been two weeks. Even the Mayan Calender says its two weeks. Yet we are glad that your are progressing in your fix-a-leak venture. You have had two weeks of heat. Two weeks to get the book. Two weeks to clean. See its always two weeks. Remember if you take more than two weeks you get to start over on a new two weeks so its always two weeks. Right Radu? This summer seemed like two weeks to me.... |

Jeff, I'll have one of the 911's running and drivable in two weeks. ;) Better get crack'in on that Porsche of yours buddy, see you on Mul. |
Sorry to disappoint the Mayans, but I really want the 911 on the road for GAF :D.
Cams are timed. We actually did not have re-time them, as they were still in spec. I just have to finish with the valve adjustment and close everything up. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1188841221.jpg SmileWavy |

Sorry, Jeff & Guys. Having lived in the "valley" for years I just had to rub it in a little. We just finished a race at Sears Point last weekend. It was an SCCA double Regional. Spec Miata class entries were stopped at 95 Spec Miatas. Only 69 were allowed on the track for the race! Others ran in seperate groups. Total entires were 400 for the weekend. Weather was about 80 Fri.-Sunday at the track. There is a special PCA Event at Laguna Seca to benefit a charity, Cherries Jubilee. Anyone coming up? PCA drivers school on Friday the 7th. Good reason to get out of the heat and head North to the Monterey Pen. Also there is an Italian Food Festival going on in Monterey this weekend as well. Cherry's Jubilee 2007 Your one stop location for information @ Cherry's Jubilee. Visit Cherry's Jubilee.org Mark your calendar for September 7-9, 2007. Whether it is the coastal views, the "Cork Screw" on the famous Mazda Laguna Seca Track, or the pure beauty of the hot rods, classic cars and motorcycles, Cherry's 2007 will provide a "Jaw-Dropping" good time. Toss in the great wine and food the Peninsula has to offer, plus the camaraderie with car and motorcycle folks and you have the makings of a great weekend.
