Check out my photos from out west II.

Just had a very nice, but short trip out to San Jose and Vegas. Jriera went WAY above and beyond the call and picked me up in Vegas, schlepped my bags and me to the local BMW bike dealer to pick up my 1200GS rental and then schlepped my luggage to my hotel while I followed him on the bike. I owe him a night at the NRA Range!

Next morning, Tirebiter from the BMW bike forum on Pelican met me at my hotel and we had a super, approx. 200 mile ride, out to Valley of Fire State Park and Lake Meade. It's always a thrill to meet some far-flung Pelicanheads.

Check out some photos.

My feeble attempt to mimic the back cover of Neil Peart's book, "Ghost Rider":

Brock, aka Tirebiter, and his sweet ride:

Will definitely be doing this again. Next trip will be to buy the 1200GS I rented and ride it back home.

And here's one of my best friends from college, who's now a dentist in Mountain View. She's dating a dot.com gazillionaire and we stayed at his castle. Just an unreal house overlooking the bay, infinity pool, huge home theatre, garage bigger than my house, etc.

Forgot to mention that I got behind Lemmy from Motorhead while waiting in line to check in at LAX. Sure wish I'd had my camera with me. He has seen some living!

In my limited riding career, I'd say the GS makes my R1150R ride like a pickup truck compared to a 911. The GS is almost too much bike, too easy to ride, too tempting to push. It's awesome and I WILL own one soon. I went to get my bike out of my storage garage tonight and riding it home on 66, it felt like a mini bike compared to the GS.

Rick,

Had dinner with Jordi last night here in Phoenix and we talked about your ride. Wish I had loaned you my heated vest that plugs into the bike!

Drop down this way next time!

Damn, I love Motorhead! Unfortunately, the only guy I've run into at the airport was Pat Boone.

Joe, we will meet up someday. If I really can buy a GS eventually, the guy at the dealer suggested I buy it in Vegas and ride it to Phoenix for the engine break-in and have the first service done there, then ride it home. But I may get out to Phoenix for fun again before I can swing the GS purchase.

Nice trip, Rick. Lemme know if you get out this way again. My GS Adventure is getting rather twitchy and restless lately.

Rick,

The BMW dealer in Tucson is way better than the one here in Phoenix, so would be well worth a ride down there as well.

Let me know when you are heading this way. Just charged up the battery on my bike last week and am ready for a ride.

Joe

They have a few optional parts that we do not.... Would post a picture but you would have to kill me... or delete it!

I don't think she's that into him. He's 49, she's 36. And she is impoverishing herself trying to keep up with him and not let him pay for everything. We were at a restaurant in Palo Alto the other night and I ordered a Maker's Mark on the rocks for me and a chocolate martini for her and handed the bartender a $20. He gave me a funny look and said that wasn't gonna cover it. That's how they roll.
