Pompous Canadian? That's gotta be an oxymoron. What would pump them up? I mean, besides their unlimited supply of natural gas.

aren't there some sections in Arizona where the posted speed limit is 85. they wouldn't even look at you doing 5 over.

most of the west has limits around 70-75.
except Oregon...65

but i have come up to an unmarked cop there doing 75 and all he did was hit his lights to let me know who was in front of me. i was in the passing lane and he wouldn't let me by.

Nothing. WHen I was much younger, I once got 12 points in 12 months which in Florida required me to go to the special defensive driving class (8 hours instead of 4, I think). One of the guys in my class hadn't had a license in something like 15 years. He'd been pulled over, repeatedly on a suspended license, but it never stopped him from jumping behind the wheel. Actually several of the people in the class had gotten busted driving on a suspended license.

Sometime in the last year I was in court for a ticket. Out of about 100 people in the court room, I'd say that close to 2/3 of them had gotten busted for driving with one or a combination of "no license", "no insurance" (the most common), "no registration". Of the remaining folks, most of them were in for dui and most of them were under 21. Most of the no insurance//icense/registration folks had gotten pulled over for something like speeding, no turn signal, no stop, and had gotten busted for the other when the cop checked. I was amazed and a bit scared by how many people just don't care.

Currently, the highest speed limit in the US is in 2 or 3 places in Texas, and that's 80mph, the rest of the country is stuck at 65, 70, or 75.

Sounds like some people here (charlie) have a SERIOUSLY misplaced trust in our judicial system and the intentions behind it. Let's face it - when it comes to traffic laws, it's 90% revenue rationalized by 10% safety.

If that guy busted for 171 mph promises the judge a ride in the car and to make a $5,000 contribution to the police fund, bet he gets off with a "bad boy".

It's about the money. Not defending what the guy did, but ultimately it's about the money.

Greeting Comrades;

The dog and pony show (Felony Traffic Stop) is the result of the "felony evading" charge, not the speeding or whatever other moving violation infraction.

The "speeding" (infraction) becomes a "failure to yield" (misdemeanor) becomes a "felony evading" (felony).

The "guns pointed at the melon of the driver" routine is just that, routine...

Take a close look at the speedometer...

Uh... that would be because 165 is about 6,500 rpm in 6th gear, Forrest (pwd72s).

Silverwhaletail

hmmm above pic appears to been taken at "NO TELL MOTEL" good place to hide after going 172mph! cops would never look there?????

next time back the vehicle into parking spot so cops wont see lic. plate. that way they will have to get out of their car, when they are bored cruising hotel parking lots running plates on their computer for grins. amazing how effective this is, in catching out of town miscreants with outstanding warrants.

I don't get what it is about some American's and their reaction to speeding. Its like, they go "omagawsh omagawsh think if your wife or child where out there driving!" Yet fail to realise, in other parts of the world, cruising speeds of triple digits is done by some drivers on a daily basis. Its not the risk that bothers me about someone speeding, its a disrespect for the rules. I feel MORE offended when someone makes a sudden turn without ever using their blinkers, then when two ricers blow by in triple digits.

The last wreck I saw in person, involved a speed limit driving car simply plowing into an avoidible collision if they had just been paying attention. I saw it all, just a lane change and they'd of missed the car that was stopped to make a left turn, they never braked, never did the lane change, just BAM.

I see blinkers so rarely, I pretty much automaticly let a driver who uses them in if its possible

It's our law enforcement's heavy handed emphasis on speed. Last time I was stopped I was passing a Suburban that was visibly weaving and wildly varying its speed; on the way by I notice a woman on a cell phone, with a cup of coffee she was juggling, and the entire thing crammed full of kids. Way too many to have possibly all been buckled in. The other car I passed was a crapped out old Grenada with visqueen rear windows and the left front tire visibly shaking up and down, and belching smoke like an old locomotive. Louder than one, too. Yet I get stopped for ten over. I was speeding; clearly unsafe in my well maintained 911. This guy had to pass both of them to get to me. Amazing. I guess they have to keep it simple for those guys, though. Repeat after me "speeding is unsafe"... O.k., got it. Go get 'em boys, and keep those roads safe.
