Welders come in....

My mechanic needs some 1/16 or 3/32 Nickel rods for his Tig welder.

It costs $45-$50 a lb an the supply house wants him to buy 100 lbs.

Anyone have a source for small quantity buys?

This guy seems to specialize in selling "affordable" quantities http://www.htpweld.com/products/tig_filler_metal/index.htm

He also sells on Ebay: http://stores.ebay.com/welders4less

Exactly what rod do you need? Inconel? How much?

He needs about 5 rods. It has to be Nickel and for a Tig welder that uses rods not wire feed. 1/16 to 1/32 diameter will both work.

I am not a welding expert, if I need more info than this let me know and I'll ask him.

Its for my RX7. He did a very aggresive street port on it and it required cutting into the water jacket. A good friend of my mechanic came to his shop and helped him use some sort of space age expocy to seal off the hole and then they macined it back smooth.

My mechanic did not trust the epoxy so he pressure tested it and it let go. So he is going back to what he knows, welding. The housing is cast steel so he want so weld nickel into the hole then machine it.

Maybe pictures this afternoon, although it seems some a-holes int he RX7 world lurk and stalk me and every time I put a picture of the inside of my engine on the interweb they tell the mechanic about it and he flips out. He is very secrative about what he does inside the engines, he is afraid people will steal his ideas. Its been done a lot before. He has very good ideas and some bigger more marketing savy shops have stolen from him.
