"Max power (est.): 526 hp@ 10700 rpm (bmep: 14,6 bar ; 211 psi), dimensioned for Tri-Turbo 1005 hp" from a 2.7L! Would love to hear it run.
For a MS thesis project, someone has a deep pockets or really good finding.

I used to own a 5 cylinder MB 300D.
To this day, if there is a 5 cyl. MB within a half mile, I can pick it out. I'd imagine that a 9 cyl. engine would have a similarly distinct sound.

Interesting engine.
With the 60-0-60 layout, it seems the firing order is not evenly spaced. That is 6 of the cylinders would fire 240 crankshaft degrees apart, the outside cylinders. The 3 center cylinders would fire between every two outside cylinders, giving an uneven pulse. That is, said another way, at 0, 60, 120, 240, 300, 360 480, 540 & 600 crankshaft degrees. One outside bank firing at 0, 240 & 480 degrees. The other outside bank firing at 120, 360 & 600 degrees. The center bank interspersed at 60, 300 & 540 degrees. Leaving gaps at 180, 420 & 660 degrees. Am I missing something?

The guy is from Luleå. That explains it. Too much snow and too little to do.

Janus, that is too cool! That kid must have some deep pockets or access to some serious equipment. I have to think it was heavily funded by an auto maker.
It got me wondering and thinking about other W engines. Here is one from VW. Some of you may have seen it. It is in production. Here is the site: www.seriouswheels.com/cars/top-VW-W12-Roadster.htm a W12! Janus thanks agian for making me wonder! ![]() ![]() ![]()

I've run plenty of 9 cylinder engines.
But they were all round.
