any woman that demands that sort of thing is probably not woth keeping. my wife would have been happy with a plastic ring from a bubble gum machine. it was me she wanted not the ring.

now unless you have 100,000 in the bank a 30,000 ring is down right silly.

thats my opinion

Cars:

Are ready (usually) when you want to drive them.
Wait patiently and quietly in the garage.
If chosen properly, age gracefully.
Require your time ONLY when you deem to give it.
Can be put aside when other priorities come up, or when you get sick of them.
Can be sold, and won't milk you for huge sums years after they are gone.
Hold their value.
Are always fun to drive, and are cheaper than shrinks for what ails your mind.
Actually take you places.

Women:

Are never ready when you are, and look no better when they actually are ready.
Are often impatient. "Why do you have to work so much?"
Look great when you first meet them, but gravity has a way of.....
Always want more time. For "talking", shopping, big $ vacations, "Why don't we go to Monaco for the weekend??"
Want to talk even more than normal when you get sick of them.
Rarely bring cash value into the relationship.
Always take boatloads of cash when the relationship is over, and require the services of top dollar lawyers just to hand the money (which they rarely earn) to them.
Can drive you crazy, so you end up seeing a shrink.
Will drive you to the shrink in the car you bought them.

Perhaps I'm jaded, but living in Fairfield County CT, (the east coast equivilent ot Laguna Niguel) I've seen what happens.

Sorry for your troubles....but I started reading this thread and didn't see the date...in my mind I thought "Oh no... this is trouble"...then I noticed the date and the fact that the whole story unfolds. And I'm shocked, even though I "predicted" it!

Good luck with any new relationships!

Lol, you guys are KILLING ME!!! You'll all be happy to know that my first dates are now almost always in my '93 F150. The most valuable thing I've bought a soul-sucker in the last year and a half has been a nice dinner (some warrant $50 worth of booze, too). There is quite a collection of women in a 15 mile radius of Laguna Niguel that think I'm a jerk for not lavishing gifts and attention on them.

An old man goes to the Wizard to ask him if he can remove a curse he has been living with for the last 40 years. The Wizard says, "Maybe, but you will have to tell me the exact words that were used to put the curse on you." The old man says without hesitation, "I now pronounce you man and wife."

First dates always see the '96 Mazda truck before they see the Porsche(s). A rule to live by.

WANTS, followed by 2 carats is shallow...tell her she'll get more smiles out of a used SC. You seem to have bought her plenty already. She's got an MB and a flower shop...

If you have the means, and some do...what the hell...spend the cash...btw...can you send me 3 grand for the hayabusa motor I need for the new Mod class autocross project I'm working on???

Remember, Porsche is forever...

sjd

How fast can your 930 get you out of the relationship? I had that type of relationship and my lessons learned were that
1) it never changes or gets better
2) the expecations continue to grow
3) your disdain for this @#$%@ will or should continue to grow
4) you will spend more money on marriage counselors that the damn ring cost in the first place

...it took me a year to divorce her.

If you MUST (and I MEAN MUST!) stay with her...buy her the .5 that you claim she would be happy with. If she loves you she'll stay. If she complains/grunts/pouts/etc. DRIVE far and fast. And by all means do not compare yourself to her "friends". Who gives a rat what they are doing or wearing.

Guys - read the entire thread before you post here, and look at the dates on the posts. Motion's golddigger became his wife, and then his ex-wife, all at great expense.

Motion - If you got out for "only" $60K (plus the ring and other stuff) and no alimony or child support , you are very lucky indeed! You got a great education. You can start over, make tons more money, and find some great girls.

If your girlfriend is demanding a 30K ring the first thing to do is to sit her down..open a dictionary and have her read the definition of DOWRY. Then explain you will be happy to buy her a 30K ring after the check for fifty grand written by her father clears your bank account.

A businessman entered a tavern, sat down at the bar, and ordered a double scotch on the rocks. After he finished the drink, he peeked inside his shirt pocket, then he ordered another double scotch. After he finished that one, he again peeked inside his shirt pocket and ordered another double scotch. Finally, the bartender said, "Look, buddy, I'll bring you drinks all night long. But you gotta tell me why you look inside your shirt pocket before you order another." The customer replied, "I'm looking at a photo of my wife. When she starts to look good, then I know it's time to go home."
