Unbelievable. I just had to read this saga from the first post to the last. Dude, I've never been divorced, but I believe that you really got screwed. 62K for a one year marriage? How much money do you make anyways? Not to mention the fact that you bought her a car, business, and it sounds like you were the one paying for the house no doubt. What did she contribute to the marriage? Hopefully, the lump sum cash is all she's getting and she's not ending up with the house or getting alimony. I've been through a couple crappy relationships, though none of them have ended up costing me big bucks thank God. However, I did learn a lot about determining a woman's character. When a woman sets a price or size limit on what she'll accept for a ring, car, house, etc----------RUN! It will only get worse. And worse. Look at her friends. The best indicator of a person's character is their friends' character. It may not be readily apparent, but your woman is just as f****d up as her friends. If her friends appear to be cool, then she is probably cool. There's a reason why her friends were all marrying older, wealthy men. Okay, I'll come right out and say it-----they wanted the money. I'm glad that I have a wife that was impressed by the meager ring that my military salary bought her, because it was a classy design, not a gawdy rock that some 75 year old Floridian in a retirement community would be wearing. We use our money for trips, etc. that we get mutual enjoyment from. When someone demands something that is strictly for their enjoyment and they don't have to give anything for it, buyer beware!

Let her know that if she really loved you, it wouldn't matter how much you make or spend on her.

Besides, the p-car is an investment that the two of you can both share together (register in your name only).

Now I would rate this one of the all-time best threads I ever came across. Sorry Motion for all the stuff you went through but responding to your own thread almost 2 years later is simply classic and beats Jerry Springe.

I finished the diamond discussion with my girlfriend early on in the game and made it perfectly clear that there is no good reason (that I can see) to throw that much money at something utterly useless. It doesn't make a car go faster, doesn't feed or educate one and does nothing else in my book.

If I have to show commitment that way I could as well light up a couple of thousand dollars in the fireplace....

I agree! I read it yesterday after the link was posted in the other thread. Took about 45 minutes to read, but it was awsome! Sorry again, Motion. But, like I mentioned in the other thread, I have a new respect for you (I wasn't registered when this was goin' down).

I would also like to mention that there seemed to be a few replies that were edited..... err, uhm!

man oh, man I feel for you. I usually ldont follow OT threads since they come back to haunt me as I'm searching for helpful info, but I cant help but offer my sympathies and congratulations that you brought it to some closure.

I assume she walked with the ring. If it makes you feel better, it should be worthless in a few years. DeBeers can't keep up this scam forever....

If she really loved you, she wouldn't care what size the glass was.

Sorry Richard,
I remember this thread, back when I had my '86ragtop'.
Thought then that all that money tied up in a shiny rock seemed pointless.
I would rather give my loved one something that she could really appreciate (like a Porsche ).
Seriously though, these gals that expect big rocks on their fingers are trouble from the start.
When I met my wife I was'nt earning much and got a relatively 'economical' ring. Since then I offered to chose something larger, to which she stated that she wanted the original as I had cosen it and it had great emotional/ sentimental value! - ya gotta love her!
I hope that this ends painlessly for you and that your fortune improves soon

Richard

You gotta stop impressing those women you meet the first time out by throwing a lot of money at them and driving them around in your fancy cars.

Seems like the women you are meeting are more like trophies than partners. I wouldn't blame your ex. to much, because it take two people to end a relationship.

Any women who tells you how big the ring has to be will only cause you further strife on down the road.

Car, flowershop, ring... it wont end. Be sure shes 'in love' with you - not what you give her.

Sorry if thats a negative viewpoint, but I was talked out a similar situation by my friends... the least I can do is agree with those who are slightly 'puzzeled' by a fiancee demanding a certain size ring.

see attached. hot as all get out (biased opinion obviously) gave me the boy and matching girl (albeit 2 years older than boy) and see the ring... 1 carrot.. grad school buy... It's not the ring, girl or car but instead your taste and ability to pick winners.

(pic wont show..hmmm, if i cant do it...i'll insert one of jenna jameson...sit tight)
