Just to clarify:
I am NOT supporting ILLEGAL immigration, or anything illegal for that matter I am trying to illustrate that there IS a difference between being against illegal immigration, and being racist. Consider, is the issue under discussion the fact that a) an UNLICENCED man hit and killed a pregnant woman OR b) an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT hit and killed a pregnant woman OR c) an HISPANIC man hit and killed a pregnant woman OR d) an HISPANIC ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT hit and killed a pregnant woman? Which of the above choices is a valid social/political stance, and which is blatantly racist? |
My wife and I were talking about this issue just yesterday. We live in a small town of 20 thousand in the panhandle of Texas. 30 years ago when my wife was in high school she had 3 hispanics all probably legal in her graduating class of 360. My son who graduates in May will have 30% of his class of 300. No telling how many are legal.
Everyday there are hispanics in deadly crashes around here. An inordinate amount and they take out innocent people every time. What brought this to our attention yesterday was an illegal who had crashed his car nearly through a house. He picks probably the only road in town with a tight curve to try and evade the cops, hits the curb and flies through the air into the 2nd story of a house. Kills him and luckily the house was not occupied at the time. These people are in the country illegally making good money and do not know how to drive. |
What if a unlicenced gay albino midget hit a pregnant woman?

Congratulations - a gal has started a controversial discussion!
(Insert smiley face here) |
I have to agree with our Aussie friend - and not just because I'm really late in shipping him some parts (hoping to get 'em out Thursday!). I see a lot of misconceptions and incorrect 'facts' toted around about illegals here (example: they all work 'under the table'). Seeing as those on this forum seem to surpass the nominal intelligence of the general populace (sad as that sounds), I have to assume that the general populace is even more grossly misinformed. That's scary.
I don't get into these discussions much. Especially where the Californians and Texans are concerned, rational discourse probably isn't likely at this point. Some facts about me: -I have direct experience with illegal immigration -I frequently discuss this issue with Latinos, and in plain English OR Spanish let them know how wrong I think illegal immigration is, and what I think should be done about it (we can get into that in another thread - keep in mind I'm a corporate spook and official pawn of The Man - you might be surprised about my views). Nonetheless, I am going to try get into the spirit of this thread. I can think of two things I believe would have a greater impact on highway safety: -Ban cel phone use while driving unless hands-free -Ban women drivers Discuss. |

My father-in-law is hispanic, we are very close. My mother-in-law immigrated from Russia, we are very close. They both came into this country LEGALLY. They both speak fluent english and live an american lifestyle, while holding onto some of their heritage. My best friend in the whole world immigrated legally from South Vietnam. He speaks english well and has an engineering degree. his sister is on staff at UCLA medical center as a professor/doctor. They worked very hard to become part of America and I am proud of them for their efforts and their success.
So don't give me any of that racial card BS. I am not a racist. I am however, an American who loves this country and do not want to watch it decay. I want to leave my children a place where they can enjoy the same opportunities I had. It is their legacy and I will not stand by and let others take or give that away. I am very, very strongly opposed to illegal immigration. I cannot stress that enough. I support a controlled legal immigration program, but do not agree with ANYONE who supports uncontrolled or illegal immigration. If immigrants come into this country or any other country at a rate faster than can be assimilated, there will be problems. We have problems. Major problems. If immigrants want to come here and be American and be part of this great country, I support that at a CONTROLLLED rate. But if immigrants want to come here and not be American, but instead want to make America more like the coultry they came from, I have a serious problem with that and will fight it, and I do. US government statistics show that Hispanic immigrants are 3 times more likely to be involved in an alcohol related automobile accident that people who are native to this country. I posted links to that study a few weeks ago. They do not state what percentage of those in the study are illegal, because they are not allowed to ask because it might OFFEND someone. Bah! Around the same time, I posted studies that detailed how illegal immigrants cost the US economy more than they contribute. So much for that "they help the economy" BS. I don't care where they come from or what they are looking for or what they are leaving. If it screws up my country or my way of life, I will fight it. 25% of all children in the California public school system are classified as "English learners". Well over 95% of them are from mexico or other latin american countries. I am paying for their education at the expense of students who were born to families who actually belong here, in other words are US citizens and are here legally. At the same time I pay a very large amount of money to send my kids to private school where they actually teach the subjects in english and where my kids will get a decent education. The public schools in this area teach every subject in english and spanish, at the same time. Twice as long to cover a subject, half as much learning. Yeah, that's fair. I suggest that many of the people in this country who support illegal immigration or who suggest we should ignore the problem have ulterior motives. If the population becomes predominantly hispanic they benefit. They want a bigger piece of the pie and secretly want the hispanic culture to take over and dominate. it is happening in California and it is obvious and cannot be denied by any reasonable person. I went ot school with a girl who's name was Loretta Sanchez. After graduating she married a man who had a typical non-hispanic last name and she took that name. She ran for several public positions, city council, you name it. She did not win a single election and basically gave up. The democratic party approached here and told her that if she moved to santa Ana and changed her name back to Sanchez, they would get her elected to congress, even though she had absolutely no experience. She did, they did, then they recruited her sister and got her elected to congress also. Simply because they have an hispanic sounding name and they represent an area that has a very large hispanic population. Two people helping ot run this country, because they have an hispanic last name and no other qualifications. Who are the real racists? |

I imagine we can agree that untrained and uninsured drivers should not be on the road. How does one prevent this from happening? The only way I can think of that comes close is to have to prove one is a licensed and insured driver to be able to buy gasoline. Can't say I necessarily agree with a plan like that, but I can't think of any other way.
Oh yea, I was in my Porsche a few years ago and was waiting at a stop sign behind a minivan. The reverse lights illuminated and before I could honk my horn, the minivan crashed into me. The car then took off and proceeded to drive down the road as if nothing had happened. After following the vehicle for 5 minutes, I finally was able to get the driver to pull over. An hispanic woman got out of the car, spoke no English at all, and in my poor Spanish, I was able to ascertain that she had no driver's license and no insurance. Miraculously, the front of my car had no damage. The bumper did its job. So I left the scene, thanking my lucky stars, and figuring what could be done to prevent this from happening. That was my best plan. |
After visiting Sydney...I cannot believe an Aussie is calling Americans racist. It is horrible how aboriginals are treated there...and they are not even illegal aliens! Pehaps your ire would be better spent at home solving your own problems.
