CSI "factoid" - gun ident from casing?

How about when they used an Optical Emission Spectrometer to determine that a peice of metal was aluminum?

We have one at work. We use it for things like determining if a peice of steel has 0.3% or or 0.4% Carbon. To determine if something is aluminum we usually just look at it and maybe pick it up

CSI - Miami continually talks about crime guns being "licensed to so and so", while everyone ought to know that there's no handgun or any other kind of licensing in either Las Vegas or Miami. New York, now, that's another story all together, poor slobs.
