I don't think I've ever seen a thread go so far off topic and become so random. Ever.

Is Katie still invited to participate??

Jim Richards 02-24-2007 03:07 PM

What, are you the OT police? ;) :D

Was that taken at lime Rock?

I recognize the grass if it was!

Jim Richards 02-24-2007 03:10 PM

Yep, that's genuine Lime Rock grass. :D Pic taken in Fall, 2003.

Maybe the PPOT loony bin has seceded in scaring off yet another young lady. :(

Never seen a thread go this far off? I don't know about that, I have seen things get pretty wild around these here parts.

PPOT is like a box of chocolates.

Noe where did I put those 2005 GAF pictures? BTW IMO the attendance at the GAF doesn't seem to be any less just the sellers at the swap meet but I don't have any numbers to back that up.

lisa_spyder 02-24-2007 03:50 PM

PPOT is exactly that...it all ends up off topic :D ...part of the fun and I thought Katie was done with her decision...

Jim,

there's a couple of great examples of the sorts of cars Katie should explore... at least to see what else is out there and to expand her knowledge.

Scott; a lot of the guys who are regulars at GAF have told me the numbers are slipping...they all said there was more of everything in 04 than 05; but I can only go on heresay...

SLO-BOB - my apologies :o .

Chris,

How the hell are you?!

I'm gonna leave this alone now...apologies again Katie :o

Geez, I know. I take an hour out to strip some Koni struts (that orange was there to stay!) and A-arms and come back to find the coolest historics pics I've seen in a long time!

Gotta love EZ-Strip

And keep an eye on the Pelican classified ads. Early cars come up for sale regularly. :)

Good choice Jim. I talked with Katie about Lenny's T/E but she's got to find something closer to home. And she's got to "feel it," which I totally understand. Aubie's really under her skin.

Those where from the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance
a few years back, Dan Gurney was Honorary Chairman. If you look close, you will see my Vintage Dan Gurney Eagle BMX bike on the field with the cars he raced.

I need to start a thread on the concours, as it is only a few weeks away:D

Oh yea, Katie, watch out for rust, comes free with most of 911s:D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172364985.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172365000.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172365011.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1172365043.jpg

No apology necessary. Just seemed a little weird to me-18 pages of trying to talk someone out of a beater and the page after page of shirts, different cars, parts, etc.

Fwiw-I think your topic deserves a very lengthy thread of it's own. Your Dad sounds like quite a guy. I would love to hear more about him, his cars, and you carrying on the tradition.

porsche911girl 02-24-2007 08:59 PM

Aww glad to see you guys care about me! I've been all over today, but not on here for 2 main reasons: one, intnernet was down for some reason most of the day...which for me, is a GOOD thing...trust me. More internet=less schoolwork, less schoolwork=bad grades, bad grades=no Porsche...and well you get the idea.

Second reason I wasn't here was b/c I was at the Eurowerks swap meet/open house. Took me awhile to find it, and took my friend along as trusty co-pilot and navigator, and we had a blast! He loves Porsches too. Got to see Matteo's car, and loads of other awesome cars. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I walked in and saw a silver 356 coupe...I was afraid to touch it, I was that much in awe.

Saw some other cars that looked to have been sitting outside for quite some time. I'm assuming they were parts cars, but Aubie looks better than them!;)

I took the digicam and my firiend brought his HD video camera, so between us, we're set. We also spent 2 hrs looking at/hanging out with Aubie yesterday, and got some footage of that as well.

Anyway, gosh this post is getting to epic proportions, more like an email...oops! But I just gotta warn ya, if I'm not around for the next week or so, don't worry too much. I've got a history midterm on Wed, a history paper due Mon (this mon), and an English paper due the 2nd week of March... Don'tcha just love college?

Ok Katie, if you have to have a longhood, here Ya go. http://dorkiphus.net/porsche/showthread.php?t=12764

"It's a good driver that will need just about everything to restore properly. "

At least the seller isn't trying to sugar coat it. His price is way more in line with reality than the purple Scheib car.

SLO-BOB 02-25-2007 05:52 AM

After reading Katie's posts, I've finally come to the realization that we're dealing with a wide eyed, Porsche fanatic kid. Not a thing wrong with that. In fact Katie, you seem to have many of the ingredients to become a very Porsche knowledgeable woman like Lisa-someday. We all wanted to get a car and fix it up at one point. Many of us have, and learned the expensive lesson. Very few of us have actually done it with success. None the less, it's a lesson in life learned. You take the experience with you for the next time. Many of us are just trying to save you from making a mistake. However, sometimes it's our mistakes that define us and help us grow. As long as it doesn't send you to the poor farm that's okay too.

That said-Longhoods are the classic Porsche 911. I like them too. However, I would not recommend them as a 1st 911, or even 2nd in your case. If you really like the longhood look, maybe consider getting a SC that needs some tlc and drive it for awhile. Then, if you want to "make it your own" you could do a backdate. There are a ton of threads on this and it's very doable. You end up with a more trouble/rust free car that retains the classic look.

Last but not least, try not to anthropomorphize a car like the purple one. It's just a car. It has no feelings and does not have to be rescued.

I can see why you love it Katie, but it looks like someone built the rear flares out of filler alone.

The expert speaks.

Actually they look like real RS flares, and pretty well installed, surprisingly enough. I must be the only one who was surprised by the pictures of this car, in that it is not nearly the POS that was expected. Sure, it's not a Pebble Beach concours winner. But it is not represented or priced as such, either.

I don't think that it would necessarily be a good car for a novice w/ zero tech knowledge or bankroll, but in terms of raw material I have seen a LOT worse. For more $$.

The internet is a wonderful place for free advice, but this thread proves the value of that old axiom of getting what you paid for. Any potential 911 purchase requires a physical exam by a qualified person who knows what they are looking at. Most of the naysayers here have no idea what they are even looking at.
