All of the above. I was not in love with the Porsche marquee but after looking for a RWD fun ride, I ended with the 911. It has been a torrid love affair since. These cars rock.

You certainly could. Who knows. Owning a 911 might someday get you into Heaven. Take God for a drive. ;) |
To drive it. Have you ever been bored in a Porsche? There is no Substitute.

and for me, not just 911...a very fit 356 does it for me too ;) |
my car is a time machine.
period. |
+1 time machine.
I also think it's the utilitarian nature of the early German cars that attracts me. They are purpose built, with the driver very much in mind, and nothing extraneous - nothing unnecessary is included. I know this is a helluva comparison, but I like the early Volkswagen products for this same utilitarian, purpose built nature. And then there's the fun factor... |
I was looking for a cheap car to buy my daughter to drive to school. I stopped to look at a '75 VW and the 911 sitting next to it was cheaper and in better condition.
|
Because I couldn't afford a RX7... :D
|
I discovered another reason today:
http://homepage.mac.com/drew1/.Pictures/Down_Decker.jpg Because no other car can give me the feeling that I have when I'm driving down roads like Decker Canyon with views like this. (Please excuse the crappy quality from my DV camera. The moving footage looks and sounds a lot better. :D) |
Initially because it was a good handling car for a reasonable sum of money.
It is reliable and has never left me stranded even when driven many times cross country It is the only car I have owned where putting 100,000 miles on in 10 years of ownership hasn't effected the resale value all that much The amount of experienced advice on Pelican so we can keep our P-cars going by the do it yourselfer Hell of a fun car to drive and wax pride in ownership Speedy:) |
Because I long ago got sick of British cars and Lucas Electrics ;-) Moved on to Porsche (first a 912) and never looked back. Now on my fourth one.
|
I'm not an owner (yet) but I've come to the realization that the ERA GT40 replica I've been "in line" for (for the past 7 years...my fault) isn't going to happen for less than about $80-90K....and that is "building" it myself...so...onto the next holy grail...an '89 930!!!
