The Who? Maximum R & B

well dumped serious $$$$ on WHO?-tickets for g/friends b-day last night. actually played the micro-milli second punch the keyboard game with ticketmaster quite awhile ago when ticks went on sale and came up a winner.

outstanding seats...................OUTSTANDING SHOW! tragically hip opened(should have been BIG HEAD TODD and the monsters IMHO, but what do i know. trag. hip was ok, kinda got bored and decided to get some t-shirts. well that took some time. enjoyable watching an ecclectic mix of people walking by. mods/rockers/punks/hippies/ceo's/salesman/cougars/tweens/teens/glitter mommies/soccer mommies/old folk etc.

if you closed your eyes, you would have never known MOON and ENTWISTLE were gone. townshends brother assumed the classic in the corner bass position and was a mirror of entwistle. the new drummer NEVER MISSED A BEAT! (2) bass drums-(1) snare-(3) ride tom toms-(1) floor tom-(3)zldjian(sp) cymbals-(1) hi-hat. they were HOT is all i can say! it was MAXIMUM R & B! after we left last night i felt as if i had been hit by a FREIGHT TRAIN! total assault on your senses and i am still feeling it this am as i write. p.s. i didnt drink a drop!

they didnt really play alot of old stuff, but played quite abit off their new cd, which has quite a few good songs. townshend windmilled his ass off, and daltrys mic was a flying. watched drummer loose one stick entire night! they have found the elusive fountain of youth, unlike many other older rock bands.

the above opinion comes from a 49 year old WHO FREAK that saw them less than 6 months before MOONS DEATH @ McNICHOLS sports arena in denver, about 18 rows dead center from stage! ask me sometime about the 1400 mile denver to phx jeep tour w/ONLY (1) cassette.............QUADRAPHENIA!

dont miss them.............highly recommended

That "new drummer" has been around a long time. Has played with them since they booted Kenny Jones.

It's Zak Starkey, son of that famous drummer Richard Starkey, AKA, Ringo.

Great to hear. I've been a Who freak since junior high. It was hard back in the early 80s to get access to their records or hear them in my lonely part of the country. I play Tommy for my boys (now 10 and 12) on the way in to school. They love it. Maybe I can bring them to their first real concert and make up for missing The Who show in October 1982 when they put on a second show in Minneapolis and I was in town but too afraid to go there alone.

Caught them in Seattle a few months ago. I was ready to be dissapointed in yet another "reunion" of over-the-hill rockers, but boy was I wrong. It really was an outstanding show. I did, however, still miss Moon. I found I missed Entwistle as well.

Zak is a fantastic drummer, no doubt. But he reminds me of the old man; very solid and predictable. With Moon, you never quite knew what to expect next. Far more of a showman, and lunatic. Talent alone will never fill those shoes.

The kid on bass was certainly very good. He didn't really have those subtle, rolling bass lines that always kind of filled in the background like Entwistle did. It never seemed like he was doing much, but if you kept your eye on Entwistle, and really listened for him, boy were those fingers busy.

Don't get me wrong; this line-up is fantastic. I would highly recommend seeing them if you have a chance.

That's funny; I went to the Who's "last show ever" in about 1980. Maybe before. Saw them a few times before that too, those were the days when I never missed a big tour.

I guess the nostalgia $$ is too good to pass up for all of these geezers.

look at it this wayyyyyyyyyyy, they are old! townshend is DEAF! if i played drums like moon or starkey i would have a heart attack! play drums like a nut case for 2 1/2 hours straight and you'll feel like you ran up mt everest!

if i was in their shoes, at their age, touring would not be in the picture. sit on estate and enjoy life and its rewards. my point being i doubt if any of us will get to see them again. i may be wrong.........look at the stones!

and thats the reason i dumped serious bucks on clapton tickets. saw him once at tempe diablo stadium. clapton was sh!! faced staggering down falling drunk! he was playing w/allman bros and doobie bros. NOT A PRETTY SIGHT GETTING FORCEBLY DRAGGED OFF STAGE!

soooo hopefully he will run from early to late songs and make up for his egregous error in getting high and drunk last time! hey what the hell........everyone has speedbumps in life! some just dont ever clean up their act, sorry to say! rock and roll, just like racing is an INHERENTLY DANGEROUS SPORT!

I caught at least two "Who finales" back then, Denis. I caught them a couple of times prior to that when Moon was still alive. While the music is about the same, the energy is far less without him.

They were here in LB on Monday. My co-worker went and checked it out. I actually thought about it (could've gotten floor tickets for about 100 bucks each) but was too busy with work crap this week and didn't want to be dragging in here Tuesday hung over, half-stoned and tired. Oh well. Next time 'round I guess.

I heard Pete Townsend was saying some funny-arse stuff about Brittany Spears. . .

quite abit of anti-military propaganda across the BIG SCREEN behind stage along w/a song regarding "stockhom syndrome", that was pretty dark.

i heard enough tracks that were good off their new cd to buy it. if you have a chance dont miss'em. at the very least you'll get a laugh from everyone all dressed up as mods and rockers!
