'67 XKE with 5000 miles.
Woman walking down the street sees me fiddlin' with the car in the driveway. She says "hi, I've always wanted to meet the guy with the snazzy Porsche."
Chit and chat go by... she says: "My husband's got a '67 Jaguar XKE sitting in the garage that he bought brand new. It's got about 5000 miles on it. You're a car guy, would you be interested in buying it?" I mumbled something about giving it some thought. Not sure I'm up for something like that, but it sounds interesting. Any thoughts on value? |

Your answer should have been, "Maybe, how much for the old clunker?" Late husband? I'd take that car in a heartbeat, depending on price of course.

A lot!
Would start at $30k and go up from there. If you are serious email me and can get you with people who know what the car is worth within a few $100... Big things are, if the car has only 5000 miles on it then if you are going to drive it then its going to leak, everywhere. I am in the middle of restoring my 1969 model. Finally bit the bullet and pulled the entire braking system, engine, tranny, all the heating/cooling and so on and overhauled the whole system. It had been sitting for around 20 years and while it ran well, it leaked all over the place and I would never had trusted the brakes. Good news is that all the parts are available for the older Jags. What part of the country are you/the car located? Joe

Near the ocean or inland? Makes a difference on a stored car.

I had a '62 XKE Roadster with '65 running gear.....Loved the car, but don't consider it to be reliable.....
Roadsters are worth a lot more than Coupes.....I haven't stayed up on prices. If I did I be sucidial for selling mine as cheap as I did....

"Well, if you think the Porsche is kinda snazzy, I've always thought the same of old Jags. How 'bout you drive this and if you like it, we'll trade?"
![]() Man, you can always find another 911. So, if the '73 911 S sold for 150K last year in totally original and non running with 7xx miles on it, you think an XKE is not a very valuable car? Now, it's been awhile, so I don't remember my models like I used to. But, is this a Series I. Roadster or coupe? I think they even had the 2+2 out by then, so models vary in price. I think this one has the bigger motor and the synchromesh trans. Last edited by milt; 03-12-2007 at 04:21 PM.. |

XKE's have been described as the blonde supermodels of the sports car world. You're eager to take it out in public so you will be the envy of all who see you, but equally afraid it's just going to embarrass you. That, and they can't possibly have any idea what your life at home with one is really like.

You are close. Series 1 was from 1961 until 1963 or so, and had a 3.8 liter engine. Series 2 was 1964 until 1967 and had a bigger 4.2 engine. Series 3 was 1968 and later with the open headlights and smog crap on it. The first series were the true sports cars and fast and fun. Series 2 was more refined yet still fun. The S3 and later cars were gutless wonders compared to the early models, and had the big bumpers and such.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between an XKE and an E-Type? My Dad just bought an E-type Series 3 Coupe- it went from England to Texas and now back again- not sure what year it is but it was an auto box, 3.8 V-12 and 280 hp...
Thanks in advance, Paul.
