That is freakin' hysterical.

These guys look in their rear view mirrors and all they see is a great big VW logo.

It takes all kinds. Must suck to get passed by a bus! That is the with out a doubt the ultimate sleeper. Although they should've used the 26 window bus..

Ok, to really appreciate this vehicle you must go to their web site:

www.race-taxi.ch

Click on PROJEKT on the left menu
Click on the first picture in the gallery and then the segmented arrow at the top right which will start the 96 picture slideshow of the build. Just beyond words.

Cool. I had a 1959 bus which was about the same year as that one when I was in College in the late 60's except mine was capable of about 60 in 4th gear versus that one which looks like it was doing 60 in first gear. I remember losing 2nd gear and barely making it over the hills between San Jose and Santa Cruz.

How on earth did they make it handle so well?
To me that is an interesting side show but a terrible waste of money, time, and engineering skills. Kind of like road racing Semi tractors.

I don't read German, but I'm pretty sure that bus has a 993TT motor and not a GT3 motor...

Brian, I think other than a higher center of gravity which from the construction looks like they tried to limit. It's all late model suspension and probably abs/traction control from the TT looking at all that wiring they swapped in.

I'm suprised to hear this coming from you evil twin man Some might say the same about us, flayling away on our 20+ year old motors, trying in some cases to extract 300hp(NA) or 500hp(boosted). Perhaps we should all get american v-8's, or Nissan RB26DETTs(good used one is $3500 add couple turbos and your hitting 1000whp!) I don't think it was a waste of time and money to send you a bunch of parts

Besides, what a great advertising project(cause I'm sure it's no fun to drive ) they can write-off for their business, though with their obvious talent, I'll bet their not hurting for work.

Can you tell I haven't had my coffee yet?

At first blush, it looked to me to be a waste of good talent and time (it took them 45 months!). But then seeing all the details on their website, they did an awesome job! It's also a great travelling billboard for their shop's obvious talents at repair and restoration. And look what fun they have racing it!

(As I tried to read all the captions, it was pretty fun to copy and paste into a German to English translator (I took German in high school, but haven't spoken since)).

I might not have spent all the time and money on that project myself, but I can sure appreciate it.
You have obviously never owned a pre '67 VW Bus in your life. I'd say money well spent.......Combining timeless German classic look with some modern German Go-Fast.......How much fun is that driver having???I would be laughing my a$$ off. I think many out there will like it.

Isn't that a 917-style shift knob? Very cool, but what a lot of time and money for a goof.

How can anyone watch that and not laugh? Just thinking of being on a track and seeing that big ol' bus come flying by your new sports car. It'd be like being in a bicycle race with these new state-of-the-art road bikes and all of a sudden somebody comes flying by you with a banana-seat and streamers on the handles.

Thanks for the resurrection of this thread. I missed it the first time out. That VW Bus would make a great write up for "Excellence". There's serious suspension work going on there too. Wouldn't that make a cool grocery getter. I want one!
