Dammit. I thought you were going to say Reeves Callaway had released a new production vehicle. What a letdown.

I competed in a tournament last fall sponsored by Callaway and Chrysler, and they had us on the range trying out the '07 stuff way before it was ever released (it was a focus group of sorts, they wanted our impressions of the new clubs).

I'll tell you two things about that ugly beast:

1. When you make contact, the sound is outrageously loud. I told the Callaway guy I could only assume that they did that so a weak player feels like they are really creaming the ball.

2. It is very, very hard to hit that club anything but straight. Amazingly straight.

I haven't bought mine yet (we couldn't keep the prototypes ) but there's no question I will buy one.

Uggh, I am in the market for a new driver, but $500, damn, I don't need to hit it straight that bad.

Hideous!!!!!!!!! Luckily I a;ready drive the ball farther than I need too. I need a driver I can work both directions so that I don't run out of fairway. These things are made to go dead straight.
That said, for the guy with a low swing speed or a poor swing, this is super technology. Nothing at all wrong with that. The game should be fun for everyone.
Now Callaway's Irons....that different. Those a beautiful.
Overall, I think Callaway is really leading the pack in golf equipment, with Taylor Made, Ping and Cleveland trying hard to keep up. Titelist is awfully late for the race(except for the Pro V1) and that is pretty sad.

Well I can tell you that at the country club I caddy at during the summers, there will be at least 5 of them in use by June. If those guys like it, there will be 10-15 by later July.

How DARE you, sir!

I'm a 2 or 3 handicap depending on the revision cycle, and my average drive is about 275. I almost never care about working the ball much with a driver, that was why the club has some appeal to me. Having said that, if you regularly want to be able to work your drives both ways this isn't the right weapon.

And I'd disagree with you about Titleist...while I'm not a fan of their drivers and fairway metals, I think they have a great selection of forged irons for better golfers. I'm not so sure about their game improvement clubs, though, not familiar with them.

I wish I could hit my drives straight every time, but not $500 wish.
I enjoy golf but I wouldn't enjoy it any more after spending that much on a driver. that said there will be no shortage of buyers lining up for one of these. I'd rather wait a while and buy one out the used clubs bin after someone gets rid of it 'cos it didn't make them into Tiger Woods.

Those things (and the Nike) are rediculous . Like hitting the ball with an SUV.
Smaller is sometimes better.
Love the new irons though.
Ernie Els just signed on with Callaway.

Just shipped my Clevelands off to Cali today. Will be playing around Carmel in a couple weeks.

Wow yeah...that's about as much as I have in my playing cue...a J-2 Jacoby with an X shaft and sniper tip. Yep, golfers aren't the only suckers for gadgetry in search of a better game.

I thought with pool players it was all about the search for suckers.

Well, that too....I once read a Bobby Riggs book. Title "court hustler". In it, he stated that the first time he saw a golf course, he knew he was looking at a big outdoors pool hall. Ever noticed that golfers and pool players alike use the term "stick" to describe equipment?

Check ebay. There's got to be some Chinese knock-offs on these models already!
