Thumbs up Early DST--no problems here

Just checked both computers to make sure they didn't spontaneously combust when Daylight Saving(s) Time came 3 weeks early this year.

They had been hyping it up on the news (even Jon Stewart did a parody of it on his show) the past week saying how some older computers, especially if they were over 3 years old, might have problems adjusting. Of course, I thought, well that's easy, you just adjust the clock as if you were adjusting the time. But then I spend a lot of time working/playing on computers.

My laptop, which is 4 years old, showed the correct time on startup, and the family desktop (which I've been using lately) changed right over automatically without needing to reboot.

So all's good on this end! Just wanted to let you all know!

Now I'm gonna go to bed!

Windows 2000 servers, even though they were patched, are having issues (at least where I work).

Thanks, MS!

All of my PCs are patched. I manually set my Palm to the correct DST settings, a few weeks back. No problems.

I might have to stop by the office today and check the Server. I am using MS Server 2003 if I remember correctly.

My PC at home adjusted itself.

My computers seem okay. We've been losing electrical power at our place intermittantly for the last two days, but I think that's probably unrelated.

Arizona stays on DST all year round, right?

Man, I hope California adopts that policy some day. I can't stand it in the dead of winter when it gets dark at 5 PM. Depressing.

Ditto, I hope that where ever I live eventually adopts that policy. I'd much rather have dark mornings and light evenings.

My XP PC changed itself last night. I hadn't done anything special.

Yep, we keep the same time all year around. Its sunny enough here that its just not needed.

As well there are a couple of states back East where part or all of the state does not change either.

Although I had to change the time in 48 pieces of analytical equipment starting at 0200 / 0300 last night, and finished at 0630.

Imagine that .... the early DST change scare didn't quite play out. The list of these bungled scares is getting really long:

Y2K - 1999
Overpopulation/famine - 1960s
China Syndrome/Nuclear Power - 1970s
Freon & the Ozone Hole - 1980s
Communist Invasion - 1950s
Global Cooling / Ice Age - 1980s
DDT - 1970s
HIV/AIDs - 2000

Next thing we'll hear is manmade Global Warming is a hoax too ..... nah, couldn't be!
