911 with the most street cred?
To me this has to be the 930. I know people tend to vote for their own car but the I think the 930 has this one hands down. Most people on the street wouldn't think a 73 Carrera RS to be much more than a weekend track car. Of all the cars Ive had the 930 gets the most comments barring the 512 which in some cases the reaction I get is scary

I've owned over 3 dozen 911 variants and a handful of other Porsches, plus lots of other cars.
My triple black '78 3.3 Turbo was the car that got the most 'Whoa' reactions on the street. I played Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries' when I drove it. Loud. Even my Shelby GT 350 didn't have the Street Cred that the Turbo had -- though today, it would probably be different.

I think it depends on the audience. I know when I go to shows (not too often), I am more wowed by a nice old 911 (especially a 73 RS) than most other cars. I think the big flaring fendors of a 930 will wow most non porsche people more. There just more in your face.

What's "street cred?"

street cred is what some people seem to worry about when picking their car. In other words, what does someone else think about my ride.

After 3 failed PPI's and $900 later, I decided a 930 was NOT for me , one turbo car in my garage was enough of a drain on my bank acct.
What I love about my 2nd Gen RX7 is the fact that no one expects it to be as fast as it is. Sleeper is much more fun than "street cred". While my 3.6 swapped SC may not carry a lot of street cred it sure does suprise a lot of people. Sleeper = Priceless.

a 911 sleeper that cops don't look at twice is the best "street creed".

Where is the street? Unfortunately, most folk still associate Porsche ownership with small penis syndrome.
Sadly, "street cred" today appears to be the domain of the Hummer/SUV wit' chrome 24's set.

I'm with Wayne... as iconic as the 911 is (esp. the mid ot late 80s for me), the 356 draws all sorts... Even the new Porsche owners wanting to know what it is....

These days I think more people will stop and stare at a triple black 930 with steamroller size rear tires than just about any car out there, with the possible exception of the super flashy ultra-exotics. The 930 would cause people to stop and stare when it was new. These days they're such an uncommon sight (and are becoming classics in their own right) that people still whip their heads around and stare. They're just such amazing looking cars. The vaunted narrow body cars just disappear into the scenery around these 930's (except for some of the more amazing R-Gruppe cars out there).
I wish I had one. |

I think if you drive around in a 904 GTS, you'll get more street cred than just about any other street/production Porsche out there. I'd rank a 356 Speedster right up there too.
Then again, over in Europe, if street cred matters, a 959 or a "legalized" street version 962 would take the cake. But I don't really pay attention to what OTHER folks say or think about my Porsche. -Z-man.

I have an 88 and do not believe it is the Ultimate 911, dont get me wrong I do like the roach.
but there are better ones out there...to list a few 993C4S, 997 GT3 RS, any GTX for that matter. But I do not want to afford those ![]() The 930? It is cool, looks mean and is a legend. But like Z-man, I do not really care what other people think or say about my cars. My other car is a 91 Nissan Pathfinder with 190k miles that refuses to die. Blue interior and one busted fog light too, looks way out of place in my hood and I love parking it on the street ![]()

All that matters is if you like the car. With that said, I like my cars to be pleasing to my eye. What's the point of having an ugly car unless it's simply used as an errand runner.
Like I said, however, I couldn't really care less if someone else likes my car - as long as I like it. |

Women think the 356 is cute. Guys that know anything about 930's know they are the ground bound rockets of Porsches.

I spent the weekend polishing and waxing my 1985 NA Carrera. I went for a drive and stopped at a BBQ place for eats. An employee passing by when I was in the car leaving asked if I was famous! I thought that was amusing... but it did make me grin.

My SC gets compliments at gas stations. "Beautiful machine."
I'm surprised at how many SCs and other 80s 911s are everyday drivers in this group.

My poop brown 911 sure gets a bunch of attention. Both good and bad. Some people absolutely hate it. Many guys will give me the thumbs up. It's almost a constant thing with the looks, stares and/or thumbs up.
Last year I got questioned in the ghetto by a gentleman driving a messed up Buick (he was hollerin' at me at a stop light - I thought I was gonna get robbed). He just plain loved the car and ranted about the color and how his BMW that he was restoring had the same color interior. Very cool guy once we chatted. These darn 911's just plain have 'street cred' no matter what year, body style, etc. Here a gratuitous shot: ![]() I think too that people tend to 'excuse' a classic car from being pretentious and probably think an old car isn't going to cost more than a few thousand dollars once the paint isn't quite as shiny as a new one (patina fully in place) and the collector car plates are clearly visible. That's maybe why I get the attention ('street cred'??) that I do in the above mentioned car. It looks older than it is due to the color and the very noticeable collector car plates (issued in blue which is very different from the regular plates in white and only can go on cars 20 years or older).
