Anyone care to defend Gonzales?
Just wondering if any of the Bush dead-enders here can tell me how Alberto Gonzales is competent, smart and the best choice for current AG of the U.S.
I'll admit that I'm not real open to convincing at this point, but just curious if anyone thinks that he is anything other than another example of a Bush pal/supporter who is nothing but a political hack being given a key cabinet position in this horrible administration. I never wanted to believe the charges about Karl Rove running policy from the WH, but now it seems unfortunately true. And aside from everything else, what a little turd of a man. Just pathetic. ![]()

He claimed to "not recall" key meetings regarding firing more than half a dozen of his U.S. attorneys, (mostly for political reasons, it seems), ha has been caught in an outright lie regarding his involvement in the process that cannot be explained away by recollection even by him, etc... Even key Republicans gave him a vote of "no confidence" yesterday, with one explicitly calling for him to basically do the country a favor and resign. Specter asked him at the beginning of the hearing to "try to keep the 'I don't recall'(s) to a minimum", but he still managed close to 100 in a couple hours as reflected on an observer's score card in the gallery that he kept holding up. I think that he beat the gipper's IDRs during the Iran/contra hearings, (and the gipper was not even under oath and was probably telling the truth- he was clueless). All of this would be comical if this pathetic turd was not the boss of the entire JD, which includes the FBI, ATF, Homeland Security, etc... ![]()

Regardless of Gonzalez being competent or not, the hearings were a fine example of how wrong our government has gone. Given that the administration has a constitutional authority to replace federal prosecutors for any reason or none at all, the hearings were pure political manuevering and granstanding.
There are plenty of other grounds on which to criticize the Bush adminsitration.

I'm not a Gonzalez fan, but I've started to question his competence only since he seems to have created a scandal where there was none before. That's pretty hard to do in Washington. I loved Ashcroft though.

+2, Clinton did it as well.
But it's not the act, it's the cover-up: as in Watergate, the blue dress, and using RNC networks for official business(big no-no). In a free and open government there should be nothing to hide from the electing populous.

SMOLDERING PILE OF ASHES BELIEVED TO BE GONZALES
Found on Chair in Senate Hearing Room A smoldering pile of ashes found on a chair in the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing room is believed to be the remains of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, officials confirmed today. The smoking remnants, which appeared on the chair in which Mr. Gonzales had been seated during his testimony Thursday, have a “ninety percent chance” of being the Attorney General, a source close to the committee said. “We’re going to have to wait for positive identification from the forensics people,” the source said. “But right now, all evidence points to that smoldering pile of ashes being Alberto.” Mr. Gonzales’ day of testimony got off to a bumpy start as he displayed the memory lapses that have become his hallmark, including forgetting that he had an appointment with the Senate Judiciary Committee that day. The Attorney General rushed into the hearing room two hours late, still wearing a pajama top, telling the senators that he had forgotten to set his clock radio. As his testimony wore on, Mr. Gonzales repeatedly frustrated his Senate inquisitors by telling them that he could not recollect important meetings and conversations, prompting Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass) to interject, “Even when I’m on a bender I have a better memory than this.” At the White House, President Bush gave Mr. Gonzales’ a vote of confidence, telling reporters, “I believe that Alberto can continue to be an effective Attorney General, even if he is a smoldering pile of ashes.” Elsewhere, the elimination of Sanjaya on “American Idol” has “sent a chill through the no-talent community,” said actress Tori Spelling. http://www.borowitzreport.com/

I would like to make a stand and defend Mr Gonzales' perfect Bushie smirk and eff-you attitude. His GW-style performance was nothing short of perfection all the way down to giggling in the faces of Senators asking for his removal. The man is a pro.

I remember when there was a big debate about illegal immigration a few months ago.
Gonzales, who backs Bush on his crack down on illegal immigrants, was asked if his family had legally immigrated to the US. He sais could not recall. He can't even answer a yes or no question. What a scumbag. He is completely untruthful IMO.

I liked it when AG was Bush's WH Counsel when he helped simplify the definition of torture as anything short of injuries that would normally lead to death. The result was Abu Ghraib and current treatment of "terrorist suspects". This is a nice guy and entirely suited for a Bush appointee.

Thanks to a selective media, most people have yet to see the real master of "I don't remember...I don't recall...I have no memory of anything at all" and I am not referring to Peter Gabriel.
Hillary Rodham Clinton is the true master of selective memory. Where are the billing records from the Rose Law Firm? What were you doing with confidential FBI files on hundreds of people suspected of being your political enemies? How did you turn a small investment in cattle futures into an unlikely windfall? You know the answer: the Mistress of Darkness can't remember a thing.
