Thoughts on a WRX?

I am 30 minutesfrom pulling them trigger on a WRX.

I decided that spending $90k on an electric vehicle to save $10k/yr on fuel doesn’t make sense when I can spend $30k to save $5500/yr on fuel.

What are your thoughts on the WRX?

I should add - this will be my daily driver that I use as an appliance and pound the miles on (600 miles per week) and use as the family commuter..

This is where Matt chimes in with sage (free) advice and the rest of us nod in agreement...

I'm a Subaru fan, it's the only Japanese car I would consider.

It's a big change from a truck...which is what you had?

Yes but I’m keeping my truck. I still need it for farm use but not for daily driving.

A $30k WRX could be a lot of different cars. Could you be more specific?

If you want economy, why are you looking at a turbo subaru?

My non-turbo Forester will get better mileage.

I have a 94 Corolla station wagon that my mom gave us when she passed on. If I wanted mileage without excitement, I would drive it.

My coworker who I carpool with has a 2017. A lot of power with good gas mileage, but has had a couple issues in the less than 2 years hes had it. Nothing engine related but the throw out bearing started having issues which was replaced under warranty but they used the exact same part, and online it seems it's just a matter of time before this one fails too.

Also had a window regulator go bad but that seems rare.

Fairly rough suspension too.

Well, you make a good case against Tesla...even at 600 miles per week, the price difference will buy a lot of gas!

The older Forester's are WRX/Sti's under the bodywork. 😉

Yes the TOB issue had a TSB and there is a new part that resolved this situation that came out in late 2017.

Had 3 of them in the last 16 years. Great cars with alot of personality for a japaneses sedan.

They are econocal to own because resale is absurdly high.

I am daily driving a focus st now, which is a tiny step down from a wrx in my estimation, but you can get 8k off of msrp on one.

You give me WAY too much credit!

The WRX is great, the only nit I’ll pick is the economy car interior. Though that’s gotten better on the newer ones. My only comment is that the $30k price range is full of great cars, I would definitely do some shopping around before pulling the trigger.

There are other vehicles in that price range. I don't think it is a bad choice but seems to me a bit of a boy racer image.

I have an 04 wrx with 240,000 miles. No issues at all. I did do a clutch at 130,000.
Except for the car being a bit tinny and requiring supreme gas It has been a great car. I would buy another.
