When did Porsche first offer CD players?

Wife and I are having a debate over a particular ad for a 930 that says it included the original factory CD player. Late 80's car.
Wife says no way.

So, anyone know when Porsche first started offering CD Players in thier cars?

I found that Pioneer had the first car CD Player in 1984, bu the way...so I say "possible"

Don't know the answer, but that's quite a wife you have!

Re: When did Porsche first offer CD players?

CD players became optional factory equipment in 911/930's for the '88 model year.

I remember when my father got an Alpine CD player for his car in 1987. He was the coolest kid in the neighborhood for a couple hours. It had an outboard amp, probly cause they didn't have the technology small enough to fit in a DIN opening yet. Funny thing is, we didn't get a cd player for the house till 3 years later.

I spent a huge sum of money in 86 to have one of the first Sony cd players with monster amps hidden subwoofers the entire deal. If the weather was lousy I'd just sit in my car in the garage smoke one and sip a brew. When The Joshua Tree came out man oh man. Sonic nirvanna.

What's a CD player? Is it kind of like a turntable? Back in high school, a friend of mine's daddy had a cadillac that had a 45 rpm record player under the dash. Man, that was just so cool!
