10 things the neo-conned will never believe
Despite extensive independent verification, these things are not ever going to appear on Faux, NewsMax, Rush or any of the other 'dependable' neo-con sources:
1. There were no WMDs. The facilities for making WMD components that were in Iraq were destroyed in the Gulf War. Tons of yellowcake were left in Iraq because the threat it represented was less than the trouble of moving it. GWB knew there were no WMDs. Weapons inspectors were withdrawn in 1998. They were re-inserted in November 2002. They were withdrawn again in March ‘02, not ‘kicked out by Saddam.’ When it became obvious to them that there were no WMDs, their political usefulness to the Bush2 administration ended. The US media widely supported jokes characterizing Hans Blix as Mr. Magoo. 2. Iraq had no ability to threaten America with any weapons — even it it had had any sort of WMD. It had no rockets that were capable of travel over 700 miles, and even those were not exactly precise. And of course Saddam had no long range bombers. The real threat? Negligible. The Bush2 administration had to build a rickety pile of ‘what ifs’ to support its invasion plans. 3. Iraq was not involved in 9/11 and GWB knew Iraq was not involved in 9/11. The Iraq invasion planning began more than 6 months before 9/11. 4. The mainstream media supported the invasion. From the New York Times to Time, Newsweek, etc. the nearly 53% of the US public that did not support the invasion was invisible. 100,000 people demonstrated against the war in Washington DC and the demonstration got virtually no coverage. The whole story is well told in a Bill Moyers report “Buying the War” spells it out in some detail. 5. Rumsfeld lied up to the last day as SecDef. He said 175,000 Iraqi troops had been trained and were ‘ready to stand up.’ In truth, 6,000 trained Iraqi troops are available 4 years after the occupation began. 6. Growth of government spending has undermined U.S. financial standing in the world. Under bush 2, national debt has exceeded GDP. By a large margin. Every penny of the Iraq invasion and occupation is borrowed money from other countries, including China, which now have resulting influence in U.S. foreign policy — just by raising the spectre of calling in the debt. The direct cost of the Iraq war, plus indirect costs plus debt service will likely reach $2 trillion.

Chris..
There is truth in some of what Tech has to say. And, that is sad. Unfortunately there will always be those among us who have difficulty separating the $hit from the wind, making independent thought difficult. Most of the figures, in partiular the $$$ and the statements of the Donald are spot on as far as my admittedly limited research has uncovered. Most people did support the war at first and one has to ask why. Was the information supplied accurate? If it was not, then the argument that those in Congress who voted for it and now are against it received the same info the public did is flawed. The argument against those members of Congress falls apart if the info was flawed but presented as fact. Simple as that. Who knew what is debatable and I would not presume to make accusations. The true source of the info and who knew what and when is stillbeing debated. But, it is obvious that the info, at least a large slab of it was flawed. Yes...there is hyperbole in some of his observations, but the point seems to be the inability of some ....on both ends of the political spectrum.....to see that there is a huge middle ground and adhering to an absolutist belief really is not a sign of intelligence. And loyalty to party or specific individual over country is something that should be discouraged.

1. Not true. Read what Clinton, the intelligence services, and nearly every Democrat politican said about the threat at the time.
2. Not true. See above. 3. Bush never claimed that. 4. True. The media likes a big story, but will turn on it when that becomes a big story. Moyers is a partisan hack. 5. Not true. There were more than 6,000 Iraqi soldiers available at the end of Rumsfeld's service. 6. Not true. National debt has never exceeded GDP during the years of Bush's administration. (7). Who says the war is financed by the debt? I say it's the social programs you hold dear that are financed by the Chinese, and the war is financed by taxpayer revenue. |

11. The war is the largest entitlement program ever conceived. No Liberal could ever even imagine spending so much money on such a pitiful population with such poor results.

#3: Then who in the Administration did claim that? It certaainly seems that it was one of the lynch pins for the war.
Cost of govt. programs If the average household pays in $21,992 in federal taxes (the gov will spend $24,106), the breakdown is as follows: $8,401 Medicare/Social Security $4,951 Defense $3,550 Anti poverty programs $2,071 Interest on National Debt $ 907 Federal Employee retirement..includes the military $ 664 Health research/regulation $ 627 Veteran's benefits $ 584 Education $418 Highways/mass transit $ 392 Justice administration $ 305 Natural resources/environment $ 304 International affairs $ 299 Unemployment benefits $ 282 Community and regional development So...which of these should be cut/eliminated and what is the social cost of doing so? Easier said than done.....
