damn, i want to move to another bridge project...

i build bridges. you may remember me mentioning a team member with an anger management issue. the dude is a jackass, and i spend way too much time tiptoeing around him. he is a fantastic engineer, and can crank numbers with the best of them. a few months ago, during a very important concrete pour on a bridge component, the contractor that we oversee started slipping on time with the concrete trucks. basically he ordered the trucks to show up loaded at a pace faster than he could pour. (he has 90 minutes to unload a batch). when this happens, trucks get sent back fully loaded and the material is wasted. no biggie. "angry guy" told one driver to leave, and stomped off pissed to tell the following rig the same thing. honestly, i dont know why the anger. we dont get a bill for the rejected material. NO BIGGIE! he came back really pissed off, and started throwing around 2x4 scraps. a bonafide true to life, ADULT TEMPER TANTRUM! i asked him to go home, and he refused. so i left and checked on other issues. again, a few weeks ago, he threw a hissie, and took vacation during a crucial time. we needed coordinates for a curvey section of a bridge. no biggie, i stepped up, and with a very creative excel worksheet, cranked out some numbers, checked them with what the contractor planned to build to, verified, yadyadayada. and off we went. fast forward to today. the ass is literally looking back to the past weeks to find our errors! i think he wants to show bossman that he is valuable, and ...basically he is a dcik. thanks for the vent. (oh, he rejected the trucks when they were 10 minutes over)

There is a *****head superintendent on a local project here who is about to leave the project. I don't know whether he will be surprised or not, but his removal should have happened a year ago. The project will be MUCH better off when he is gone. This doesn't happen to be one of my projects. And just so you guys understand the impact of a problem like this, aside from the construction schedule and the cost of dealing with superintendents who have anger management issues, the removal of this guy from the project will probably save someone's life. Literally.

I've worked with a few a-holes in the construction business. But if the Super gets the job done, nothing will be done by management.

The job it tough enough w/o having to deal with dicks.

If the trucks are over the time limit or the mix doesn't pass slump or other field tests per specs, they need to be rejected. Life safety issue. Plain and simple.

This guy sounds like a prick. Don't worry - pricks don't last in construction unless they're EXTREMELY good/thorough to the point people are willing to look past their personality to get the results desired. If this guy is an ass with nothing to bring to the table that can't be provided by someone else more personable, he's soon to be out a career.

Concrete Rage!

It has to do with his hardened personality.
(Probably gives him a stiffie!)

I'm sorry. Any chance of having him stand back-to a footing hole, just before the pour? Could solve two problems.

I'm leaving, now.

Oh the stories I could tell.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother dealing with builders, engineers, architects, fill in the blank, etc...
