Anyone Hang Glide?????

I was up at Lookout Mountain, Tennessee and stopped by the Hang Gliding school to watch a handful of folks launching off the mountain (alt. 2,200 ft). For years this sport has always fascinated me and here was one of the world best schools to learn..........

Their is a part of me that is reluctant due to safety concerns as I have known folks who years ago managed to get themselves hurt in this sport. The school also offers "trike" motorized lessons and sells the Sky Cycle. I guess it amounts to ultra-lites.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks
Bob

not me but my uncle did quite a bit many years ago. the stories he told me scared the ***** out of me and i was sitting on the couch! ask a hanglider about going 'over the falls' or catching an updraft that sends you into the clouds....

I remember years ago around here, I went to do a service call at a guy's house out in the Hill Country outside of town... and passed a hanggliding school.

I'd LOVE to try it, but I do have a little bit of a fear of heights. I have jumped out of a plane... so I think I could get over it.

A few years ago, I looked into equipment and such... it's not cheap to get into. A wing probably costs north of $2k nowadays... then you have newfangled goodies like GPS units, variometers and all kinds of jazz.

Maybe someday I'll check it out... Right now I'd have another problem - getting a glider around since my only drivable vehicle is a Boxster!

They do a lot of it near where I live but it is just too scary for me.

Pretty much like jumping off a cliff with a giant kite or a parasail.
