So how do you want to die?
The "are you afraid of dying" thread got me thinking - someone made the point that it's perhaps fear of not knowing the manner of our passing, rather than the event itself that instills fear into most people. So that said, how do you want to go, if you had a choice?
I suppose dying in one's sleep would be the "best" way. Either that or I think it'd be kind of neat to get killed by being hit by a hearse or an ambulance - just for the irony.

Not sure, but it would involve a transporter malfunction and a black hole somehow.....

On a pair of snow skis. Avalanche is fine. Couldn't die happier.

75 to 80 years old and in bed with a couple of 22-24 year old Russian or Ukrainian ladies. Screwed to death and having a heart attack right at the "time of your life" so to speak...
Good friend of mine used to say he wanted to die "being shot by a jealous husband."

The same way my grandfather died, in his sleep with no pain, anxiety or fear... We talked until the end and he was at peace, it was a "good death" and that was what he deserved, he was a great man!

I have plans to hit 140, with good genes in the family, 100 should be easy. I've been bead blasting everything in sight recently, which is great for introspection. I've found that I'm more at ease when I'm tired yet still alert, my brain slows down and a certain tranquility comes over me.
This is what I imagine 100 to 140 will be like: I'll be able to take the time to think things through versus just jump in and push the momentum of the original idea. I imagine dying sitting on a beach in the Mediterranean in the shade, thinking about my youth, what fun I had as a kid, missed opportunities with girls, and my friends and my family. I like remembering random memories in life, letting them drift over my mind, like getting creme de menthe on vanilla ice cream as a kid, my frog and turtle farms, kissing girls on the playground in 3rd grade, the day I met my first and only love, a dinner starting with the most wonderful foie gras ever and ending with a third bottle of a 1986 Spring Mountain cab and straddling a mountain in New Zealand. 18 years ago I was somewhat suicidal (broken heart in a big way) and had a tree picked out on the Merritt Parkway in CT. I figured anything over 80 in a Datsun 240Z would spell my end in an instant.

I want to go quietly in my sleep like my grandfather... not yelling and screaming like the people in the tour bus he was driving...

I wouldn't mind going like a friend's grandfather actually did. He was 99 years old, in good health, walking to church one morning. A bus jumped the curb and killed him instantly.

My only preference is not to die in a plane crash. I dont want to have 30 secs of falling.
Other than that I'm good with anything. Almost died once already, it was a piece of cake. |
