Who's buying all the guns?

One of my trade journals has an article on the US firearm business. Since the NICS background affair started in 1998 there has been 76,526,340 checks run, about 8.6 million/year. Last year was over 10m. This year each month has set new monthly records, up 17.5% from last year for the same period.
Anybody here partly responsible for this news?
I'll claim to making .001162% of the calls but most were for pawn redemption.
Jim

I've bought 3 firearms, all pistols, in the last year.

I think I've only done one private party purchase in the last 10 yrs., which did not require a NICS check. And I've bought plenty of guns. I bet those 75 million sales are going to fewer than 10 million people.

I respectivily disagree. I have no stats but I'd wager it's at least twice that number of buyers. Supposedly half of American households have at least one firearm. I'll grant there's some with multiple ownership (what make one a 'gun nut', 10+?) but I think the demographics are spread pretty wide.

After a few guns, it is all about the amount of ammo

Using that metric, I got your NICS right heeere!!!

Yup. Napoleon said something like amateurs talk strategy, professionals talk logistics.

"10+" ain't even gettin' started, son. That's no more than a casual interest. I know plenty of folks with way more than "10+" of just one model in all its variants and calibers. One buddy has over 200 Winchester lever guns, no two the same. And he's still looking for ones he doesn't have...

Before April of last year, the last gun I bought was in '92... since April of last year though, I've bought my FAL, a 1911, an AK clone, a SKS, and a 22 rifle...

In VA we have a one gun per month law, though CCW holders are exempt from it. I saw a bumper sticker the other day that read: "One Gun a Month - It's the Law."

I sent an email to the DC police asking them what's the latest on gun ownership in the District. Even though the court recently struck down DC's ban on gun ownership, I doubt that the District has even started to put in place the infrastructure to support gun ownership, whatever that might entail.

i thought i was doing my part at a rate of roughly one gun per year but the 911 has taken that funding so the 'berettafan firearms procurement program' has taken a back seat.

only one in the last 12 mo that needed paper

I did by a relic, a M1 GARAND !

If anyone has a M1 for sale, I'm on a quest.

I have 4 sons, I want to have 5 Garands. 1 for each of us.

I won't "give" them theirs untill the have proving themselves to me

It could be @ 20 or it could be @ 35!

Do they still have that Director of Civilian Marksmanship program that sells Garands for a song?

The CMP is OUT of rifles !

they have some in-stock for those coming to camp Perry, but only a handful.

In October they're supposed to have some M1's for sale.

Prices on the Street for a good M1 went from 5-700 now to 7-900
on up.
