3.2 > boxster

on my way home from work/gym i get behind a nice looking debagged blue boxster.. not the new round headlight but the 996 look one, his plate says WHOOA so i figure heck lets see the whooa, i have an 86 3.2 with cage seats lowerd cup 2s etc, we hit the first turn and im all over his rear bumper, granted he had passenger but i had an unseatbelted cooler full of corona and ice, i say fair game, every turn that came made me glad i bought a 911 to say the least, and on the straights i thought he would at least pull me some there... nope anywho cars parked and the beer is in hand, cheers and if anyone knows him tell him good fun and maybe he wasnt pushing it?

I'm not real fond or this type of post/thread. What makes you think the guy wanted to race? A Boxster/3.2 in the hands of a good driver would eat you for lunch. You say "debagged" (it's de-badged, BTW), maybe you were hounding a 2.7. I have a 2.7 and it's not a rocket, but it handles very well.

Nice looking car you have there.

Did I say that I don't care for these type of posts?

Maybe the guy was simply driving responsibly. I don't understand street racing or riding someone's bumper, if that's your thing do it on the track.

I agree... My base 2001 boxster was more than holding its own on track vs stock 3.2s, so I miagine an S would have had no problem.. Maybe he did not like someone riding his bumper ?

Yeah? Apparently he didn't seem as "spirited" as you,...or you would have experienced differently, the results? Bet your ass he wasn't pushing it...even with a passenger...

Getting on someone's ass,..oh great: here we go...smart thing to do......how about SIMPLY passing his ass then see what shakes? He'll let you know, you think?>

I recently had an encounter with a bad boy mustang out on my Sat.
7 A.M. run,..on the country backroads...funny......he wanted to do the same thing,...exhibiting the same rearview mirror activity (COMPLETELY ON MY ASS)..I was torn between pulling over and requesting he do the same...then apply a 2nd degree MBB style submission hold on his ass, ala' safety class......pissed me off. (Spirited? Bull****..completely UNSAFE)

I proceeded to dust his red ass off on multiple turns in my normally aspirated 3.2L '89 (begging the cops don't show) then to the straightaway.....I slowed down considerably on that straightaway, after easily clocking 146MPH...slowed down to 58 MPH, allowing him to pass, ..turbo and all (no compete with this straightline badass turbo.......) still he learned his lesson...and guess what he did when passing me? Hung me the bird!!! THEN i really get pissed....straightaway terminates into 5 different turns (2=really tight)...I'm on his ass so tight in the curves, he can't breathe,..NOT flikin' the bird, but throwing my hands up, asking: what else you got?
You're in my way....
What dick......I'm particularly pissed at my reaction to this jerk......Usually I have much more emotional control in these situations.....So,..I let myself down...knowing that should I be clocked at that speed,..my wife would be taking me to work for a year and mucho $$$$$...not to mention NO DRIVING THE P-CAR FOR A WHILE>>>>

freaked me out......live and learn......pissed me off, too. Wished he would of just stopped when he started this whole bull****,..we could of (easily) settled it there....

I learned,..I'm sure he did, too. Had he stopped for me, he would have most assuredly "learned"...prick...

sorry to ramble,...I'm with the others as to safety and "these type of """"spirited"""" engagements...........\,..irrespective of my actions in this situation....and for that I apologize.

...respect: ALWAYS

Best,

Best,

Simply, a fact of life... that's the way I look at it. Everyone who sits there and pretends to frown on these topics, denying ever being pushed or enticed into "spirited driving" at some point is just FULL of it (unless of course, you and your p-car are consummate "garage queens").

Call it "street Racing", "stupid", "showing Off", or just "something to prove". We've all done it... GET OVER IT. This guy was just out having fun with another P-car owner. Obviously, the 'other' driver reciprocated by putting the hammer down. No harm, no foul. But YES I agree, the track is the proper place for it....

---------------------

Just the opposite story here. Cruising along the Interstate at a good rate of speed when I noticed a 2000'ish Boxster creeping up fast on my rear. Moved over to let him pass, but instead he's interested in playing. Hammers were dropped a few times and with in a few seconds or so it was over. I just remember thinking to myself - how sad Boxster "tear drop" headlights really look from a rear view mirror.

Nice car, rtoms!

The boxter owner put in a long day at the hair salon and didn't want to run with you. Seems pretty obvious to me.

The slowest 996 does ~175 top-end and 0-60 in ~5 seconds. That must be one fast RS clone.

I thought that I was going to be clicking on a thread about someone who put a 3.2 in a Boxster. Anyone else make that mistake?

He may have had another 20% in reserve, he may have been a more timid driver, he may not have been pushing hard out of courtesy to his passenger. I'd say that unless you've done major mods to your '86 (doesn't sound like it) that his car should be able to out-corner and out brake yours. His could have been a 2.5L or 2.7L in which case, you would have had a chance at out running him in a straight line (but it would have been close)

Those big heavy wheels that you are running look good, but actually hurt your handling (too heavy).

You never know, maybe he's a serious track junky or driving instructor and had another 30% in reserve that he didn't break out because he didn't want you driving off of a corner tail first behind him because you were trying to keep up, or maybe he's an old guy with no high speed driving experience and was able to do as well as he did because his car handles better than yours and he was scared spitless the whole time.

Maybe he is *****ing to his buddies about the guy in the old Porsche that ruined his drive today by hugging his azz.

THere's just no way to tell now, is there.

Just for the record, if anyone is ever sitting on my arse and then thinking that my car must be slow - I don't race. I get some sort of perverse pleasure letting people fly past and knowing that in 98% of cases if I wanted to keep them behind me I could. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a 'sprited drive', but two guys pushing each other to go faster and faster? It's not big and it's not clever, not on public roads.
Geez, I sound like my Dad.
