I'm curious, why?

Your post seems really aggressive, like anyone was saying that a 3.2L 911 could take a late model boxster S. I don't think anyone here mentioned that or thinks that, and if they do, then they are silly, naive, and/or uninformed.

I'm pretty sure that all of us (or at least most of us) would agree that the new boxsters (987, I think, 997 is the 911) and even the later model 986 models would wipe up a 3.2L Carrera. I'd say that the only boxsters that a stock 3.2L Carrera stands a chance against are the early boxsters with the 2.5 and 2.7, and even then, it only has a chance in a drag race. Even the early boxsters would probably spank a STOCK 3.2L car in the corners and braking.

I'm pretty sure that the OP said that it wasn't one of the newer boxsters, but was one of the older 986 style cars.

The thread poster is lucky, I would have given you a friendly brake check. Tailgating is probably my biggest driving pet peeve.

Yeah, I like a spirited drive as much as the next guy, but tailgating is one of the most annoying things anyone can ever do to me, ever. The worst is when the guy in FRONT of me is going slow, and I'm keeping a respectable distance but the kid in the Honda or the middle-aged guy in the ginormous pickup truck behind me rides MY azz.

I usually get behavior like that from Civics and maybe a 3-series. When people come up and ride my bumper, I don't always feel the need to compete.

BTW, I've owned 4 3.2 Carreras and 2 Boxsters (2.5 and 2.7). I'd have been happy to race for 'pinks' in this situation, driving either of the Boxsters.

Hell in a straight line my Jeep Grand Cherokee would have taken either the Carrera or the Boxster! But straight lines isn't what driving a Porsche is about. Any Porsche. I likes them all.

I thought the thread would discuss the merits of owning a 3.2 versus owning an early Boxster.

I was WAY off!

I miss the my old VW Scirocco's tail gun.

You see, the rear window washer was on a pylon on the passenger side of the hatch and would squirt across the rear window. I found out that at highway speed the washer fluid just got caught in the airstream, flipped up over the rear spoiler and all over the car behind me.

obligatory gold chains, faux rolex, "Members Only" jacket, plethora of Kenny G/Yanni CDs, and pectoral hair implants increase 996 power to weight ratio, causing significant reduction in performance. We haven't considered the ill effects of the dihydrogen oxide cooling medium.

I get irked because people are so quick to write off Boxsters, 944s, 928s.....anything that does not fit their narrow minded idea of what a 'real' Porsche looks like. Upon questioning them, they typically no nothing about the car, and 90% of the time have never driven one. 110% talking out of their tail sides.

The Cayman, the Cayanne, the up coming Panmera....grumble, grumble, pizz and moan....

Put a sock in it gramps.

Yeah, you're probably right. My "aircooled 4ever" flag is worn and tattered, much like my wit, so I am a poor snob spokesman.

I'll agree with you harddrive - in the hands of a capable driver a boxster or better yet a boxster s will decimate a 3.2. Especially on a curvey road.

On the other hand - the 3.2 carreras have a more direct feel to the road.

I know at Sebring the stock boxsters give me a pretty good run - especially through the corners - but can't hang on the straights - the S can give me problems all over the track... and I have a few cough more HP...
