lol

for what it's worth, it's more or less legal where i live
and another thing, the best engineer in my former company , i mean, the real top dog, the go to guy if you had any questions... or urgent problems... he smokes pot daily...
his career is doing quite fine, and he is considered by management as one of the most valuable engineers in the building, emea region, hell, company world wide...oh, he's an american too... he likes it here more then he did in Utah...

he's also the most reliable of friends anyone can have, i'de trust him more then some of the teetotaling tossers that worked in the same company...

you seem to be 100% convinced, that it's impossible to smoke weed in the evening, and be efficient and trustworthy during the day, yet i know many people who are... and this top engineer, top friend, is the best in his field, and just prooves you dead wrong

i do make the distinction between a desk worker and an pilot, surgeon, or any other life or death job... those are things that are to important to take any chances

but your definition of "all potheads are criminals that can't be trusted" , is no better then anybody who says that all Iraqi's, men women and children are terrorists, and the whole country should be turned to glas... it's very shortsighted...

keep in mind, that psychoactive substances, have been around for a lot longer then the last 2000 years, and they were often used in tribal culture by the medicine men, who had very high social status in those tribes... they were trusted, in fact, they were considered to be the wise of the tribe
it's just modern western thinking that is so narrow, that it refuses to allow anybody the freedom to think outside the box... outside the common capitalistic "must get richer" mentality...

I agree. It's hard to meet a computer tech that aint a stoner. Most mechanics tend to puff on a doob on a daily basis as well. I even have known a few cops to light up on occasion.

Compared to alcohol, which is legal, IMO pot is the far, far, far less destructive vice.

svandamme 07-21-2007 10:39 AM

in the end, it's the person who has to take the decision as to what he can and can't do

the only difference, is how things are criminalized when they shouldn't be, and how that unfairly targets people who otherwise would be just as reliable, and productive as anyone else, while at the same time, folks who abuse things like Valium and what not, aren't targetted, and they perhaps aren't productive or reliable, and also while some teetotalling people aren't productive, aren't reliable, and aren't looked at...

and there is no argument specific for weed when mentioning airline pilots or other high importance jobs, since the same jobs are limited in the use of medical drugs and things like alcohol prior to doing their job, i'm sure Joe knows all too well he's not drinking either the night before a morning flight

m21sniper 07-21-2007 10:41 AM

JOE SAID: "You can have all the "personal freedom" you want. Just stay away from any job that could possibly involve any of the public. After all, last time I looked I did not sign a release of my rights that allowed anyone else to get high and sacrifice my safety and the safety of my family."

You ever heard of alcohol, or presecription drugs? Both perfectly legal....both quite capable of hurting you and your family.

Both far, far more potent than pot as well.

Sorry Joe, you lost me on this one. Carter got pretty close to getting pot legalized back in the 70s. All this paranoia, while perhaps fitting, is woefully misbegotten.

Joeaksa 07-21-2007 12:52 PM

Guys,

No one seems to want to post that they are ready to jump on a plane with a flight crew who have smoked something recently? Wonder why?

Perscription medications can be abused, as can any substance. Never said that they could not. What I have an issue with is with someone saying "its my right to get high" then having a job that possibly impairs safety to the public.

You want to fix computers while high, or after smoking your head off the night before, fine. Cops smoking? Well they are asking to first off die if their reaction times are reduced, and second accidently hurt or kill someone. Think that they will not have a drug test after a shooting, especially one where there are questions or issues??

I could care less if the WalMart greeter smokes pot. For some funny reason no one has posted yet that they will trust their pilot, train engineer, bus or taxi driver to preform their jobs after getting ripped.

Finally I need to tell everyone why I feel so strongly about this. My first wife used to roll two joints at night in the bedroom. She would smoke one at night then another when she woke up. She did this for the 15 years that I knew her and the last time I was in touch with her was still getting high. She is a CPA and owns her own business so who cares, right. Reason why I hate it is that seeing the change in her, and other friends I have who have been a long time pot user are dramatic. Memory, especially short term is terrible, she hacks and coughs (does not smoke cigs) and is just generally lethargic. It is a hell of a waste of a person IMHO and hope she is happy...

Joe, do YOU ever read posts?

to clarify for you:

i wouldn't get on a plane with a pilot who just smoked weed
nor would i get on a plane with a pilot who drank, or had some meds that aren't safe

same difference
mute arguement

Joeaksa 07-21-2007 01:09 PM

Someday you will realize that I put about a 1% credence in your posts much of the time. Was really hoping that someone who makes a bit more sense to comment.

svandamme 07-21-2007 01:15 PM

Joe, do you really think I expect that you would put about 0.01% credence in my posts??? you just get all crazy eyed and come up with some smack talk about me having no sense, being an idiot and some other insults ... it's your MO

the fact remains, that your arguments in this thread, don't make sense, and are narrow minded black/white...
you have not made any statements to proove that all potheads are unreliable scum...

EDIT nor did you proove that all pot smokers are per definition potheads /EDIT

sure, your Ex wife was/is a pothead.. perhaps she needed to chill out a lot from being around you... dunno
but it's still not different from other people who abuse Alcohol or pain meds, and there's more of them, then there are potheads... so why not ban Alchohol and Meds completely?? kill it off for everybody

no more bar hops
no more relaxing brew when you get home from a long day at work
no more beer while fishing
no more pain relief, for any one

why? because according to your logic, the possible abuse by few, warrants outlawing it for all...

same difference, again

LOL, i'd take that ride... to be honest, i'd be shocked if a good % of pilots don't already fly after drinking too much, or doing 'other things'. Odds are, we'd be better off if in those instances it was ONLY pot they were on. :D

Joeaksa 07-21-2007 06:11 PM

No, I do not fly a B-727 for Northwest Airlines! And yes, I guess there are still idiots who fly after drinking. These guys had stopped drinking about 2.5 hours before the flight...

Then we have the crew who got caught in Manchester England doing the same thing...

Lets just hope that most of us in the public transportation business respect our jobs enough to get happy AFTER the flight! :) I still owe you a drink next time I get to Philly!

I understand that in some cases some of the pot they have found due to the way its grown and raised can have up to 70 times the active chemical part then it had 25 years ago.

My understanding of the history behind pot was it it was damned near a Jim Crow law, and some of the reasoning behind its passing was fairy racist.

I think Pot should be legal. And taxed. And if you drive while impaired on pot, you should get the same penalties as a DUI. I've never seen a pot head cause the same problems as a drinking does.

But I don't smoke Pot. The penalties are too harsh for me to risk it.

RoninLB 07-21-2007 10:14 PM

gun control, drug control. sex control, and now they want complete command and control health care, and ..........

i think i'm neurotic because i'm sick of all the associated crap.

RoninLB 07-21-2007 11:05 PM

deep in the Andes of Peru is these little ancient towns. One telephone line into the center of town is a big deal. The local culture is even ancient. There's almost no commerce as far as jobs are concerned so you may never have enough money to buy a TV....... but they all look great, are pleasant, lead great lives, and there are no drug problems.

anyway there is a local drug culture concerning coca leaves and this hallucinate called Angels Trumpet. Some chanters use it and it's also a household remedy for aches and pains when applied topically. Its part of a small tree. I had to see it to believe it.

they breed strains for potency in Holland, and then they keep the males plants away from the females, so the plants don't polinate(i think that's the right word) and keep gaining potency

current "nederwiet" is powerfull to the point where one toke will send you flying big style

personally , i don't like weed

but common medical science believes it's still less additcive then nicotine/tabacco, the big problem being that most potheads in Europe at least, smoke the weed with tobacco, because it's way to strong to roll joints with pure weed, this leads to a habitual pattern , not because of the THC in it, but because the nicotine hit involved with each joint...

my friend i mentioned before, he smokes it pure with a small pipe, and he's not the type who smokes pot contiously , and doesnt' smoke in the morning, he just smokes his pipe when he get's home from work, just like many pour themselves a double scotch to take the edge off...

Angels trumpet = Brugsmansia
also known as Tree Datura

it's related to Jimson weed ( regular Datura )

nasty stuff, impossible to dose, wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, many trainwreck stories bout kids who try datura, get the dose wrong and end up in a 1-3 day nightmare, where they end up in ER, turn lucid, get released and then start tripping balls again, and while tripping , they aren't immobile, they run around nekkid and get agressive or what not.

targa911S 07-22-2007 07:47 AM

When I lived in FL we had one of those "Devils trumpet" trees in our yard. Stijn is right, nasty stuff. Kids in FL were always on the news when they bloomed for getting REALLY sick from using them.

svandamme 07-22-2007 08:08 AM

the poison does need to be cooked out of em... raw they are poison, but even when properly cooked out, they are very difficult psychactives.. unpredictible stuff to say at least, more so then say shrooms, mesc or even lsd, since it can last a lot longer, and has a higher potential of people running around doing stuff they won't remember, waking up in places they didn't start off...
