It's Midnight: didja get your Harry Potter book?

Unbelievable. The seventh and last book in the series. What a run! What a story!

i was at the syracuse nationals earlier tonight, on my way home stopped at a wegmans market, there was a crowd of about two dozen folks milling around the customer service desk. now i know why.
in less than a month i have seen folks lined up for i-phones and harry potter books. a bread line or a gas line maybe i can understand, but stuff that will be available any time? waiting all night? i don't get it.

Have you read one?

In all, I see your point about waiting all night. But this one, the seventh, is particularly important not only because it's the last in the series, but also because a major main character, possibly Harry, will die.

Cool! I have a week to read mine before the San Diego Comic Book Convention, where I'm sure some yahoo or the other will utter the ending, and let the cat out of the bag, so to speak.

Cool. Another ubernerd. Pleased to make your acquaintance dd74. What better place to be on a Friday night (Saturday morning) than at the computer.

Yes, indeed. Even had a discussion tonight about how boring Superman is. I was talking with the lead writer of "Desperate Housewives" about how JK Rowling created Harry Potter. It's really just a formula, but with immense outlining.

edit: "Desperate Housewives."

another billion dollars for JK Rowling...
it may be "formula" as the other writer stated...
but in a way, if you really think about it, writing
a novel is similar to writing a song in that Hits
are extremely rare, and when they occur,
every other writer looks
at them and goes "i could write that"....
but they never do. cause they really cant
go into the mystic

Whatever you guys who are reading the 7th book do, AVOID THE NEWS. I just saw "a hint" of the ending on CNN's homepage.

It does one very good thing. It gets kids to read a book.

Hurrah for JK Rowling. She deserves every penny!

I heard a news story on the radio about this and yes the books have gotten kids to read Harry potter. The issue is that they only read Harry Potter and "reading for enjoyment" everyday is still in decline.

"Deathly Hallows" update

I'm halfway through. And by far this is the most intense HP of the series. Christ! You don't know whether to cry, drink and/or smoke yourself numb, or blow your brains out because of the storyline. I'm not joking. If you've followed the series at all, this last and final 7th book blows the first six completely away - and that's just in the first 350 pages.

As an aside, I've read online that parents in the U.S. have pre-scheduled psychiatric counselors for their kids because of HP-7's ending.

The way things are so far with reading this seventh in a series book, I think I too may need a shrink.

I totally concur, but people who wait in line overnight for a book are just as much losers as those who waited for the iPhone. Get a life people.

Mine was in the mailbox Saturday morning from Amazon (standard delivery).

I wonder what the expedited shipping would have bought you?

Funniest thing about that site is it has its own separate category for "Florida". Hilarious.
