I'm having a hard time giving a crap.

1) People die all the time
2) At least this time it was a bunch of useless paparazzi
3) Thankfully they didn't take out any bystanders
4) This happens weekly to chopper crews in the sandbox, and that usually lasts less than 5 minutes in the headlines

The stupidest part of all this is that the carjacker will be charged with 4 manslaughters at the least. Probably 2nd degree murder if the DA can get away with it. Why? Because it's illegal to be killed by your own stupidity...surely someone else must be at fault!

(Cue whiners telling me how insensitive I am)

Oh yeah, enjoy the in-chopper vid! http://www.breitbart.tv/html/3645.html

+1000

Why in the world is the perp being charged with the deaths due to the helicopter crash? Did he force them to chase him and stop paying attention to flying safely? Unreal. I can't believe this can happen in AZ. Maybe in CA but not in AZ.

Crazy.

At least there were some other news crews nearby so we could all gawk and "ooh" and "ahh" at the carnage.

Death/destruction sells. I'm sure these news crews all have secretly wished for something like this to happen so they could be "in the right place at the right time" to break the big story first and sell more rubber dog schit.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but does anyone have the particulars of the 2 P-51's that went down @ Oshkosh? I also saw a video from a Police dash-cam of a T-6 that had to do an emergency landing on an interstate (damn good job avoiding cars that were going the same direction). Wish I had marked the link, pilot placed it between a few cars and got over to the shoulder.

I found the T6 clip. It was on Hwy 41 in Wisconsin (he was also en-route to Oshkosh)

Here's a better clip with interviews of the pilot and the State Troopers who were working a stop at the "landing". Pretty cool bounce!

Couldn't open that vid but was that a P-51 or the Luscombe that landed on the highway?

Those 2 clips take a while to load. It was a T6.

Sad for the families but I can't begin to see how they can charge the guy on the ground with anything related to the crash. That's just rediculous.

The man fleeing from police was later taken into custody. Police Chief Jack Harris suggested he could be charged in connection with the collision.

"I believe you will want to talk to investigators, but I think he will be held responsible for any of the deaths from this tragedy," Harris told reporters at the scene. He did not elaborate.
It's the new trend in late-nite-TV-legal-drama-style prosecution. Convict the defendent on anything possible, whether he's at fault or not. Here's a good one for you:

http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/stories.nsf/stlouiscitycounty/story/D159F9B9C70CFBDC8625731E0012B1E8?OpenDocument

Note the cop in the story who died was drunk, speeding, and in a construction zone when he drove into a truck. The perp was convicted of his death anyway...even though he was 30 miles away when the fool killed himself.

Its my understanding that one helicopter belonged to an ABC affiliate, ABC is owned by Disney where I work. One of my colleagues from ABC is out there now. Just because they were filming a subject YOU think is Paparazzi, doesn't make it a "so what". Those four people had wives and children. There is a difference between paparazzi and news. If that same crew were filming wild fires in your neighborhood, maybe you wouldn't be so jaundice about it. BTW, those same "paparazzi" give you your traffic reports in the morning on your way to work.

Some of you really surprise me sometimes. I think you make rational, lucid statements and then you say something really stupid like the posts I'm reading above.

Also, I deal with real paparazzi sometimes with actors who you never read about in the tabloids, never flaunt their stuff, are really, really nice people who get hounded. One of the nicest actresses I've ever dealt with is Jennifer Garner, she shows up on time, stone cold sober every day, works hard, is friendly with the crew, is a really nice lady, and you NEVER see anything bad in the trades about her. She gets dogged relentlessly by the paparazzi.

That doesn't surprise me when a cop is killed responding to a call. I just can't see the car thief getting charged for anything when it was clearly pilot error. Yes he stole a truck. No, he didn't cause the two helicopters to crash into each other. It will be interesting to see what happens with this one.
