For gun owners, do you have a gun safe?
OK, in keeping with the "gun theme", if you own a gun(s), do you have a gun safe?

Yes, two of them.
I got my long-gun safe at Menard's for around $350. Good, inexpensive safe. A step up from the "gun lockers", but not a mid-grade safe by any means. The feature I like the best is that it uses a four-tumbler key. Easy to open and hard to pick.

I got my gun safe at the local Gander Mtn. It will hold 10 long guns and has shelves for handguns, ammo, papers, jewelry, etc... It's in my basement with a dehumidifier in it. I feel much safer with the guns locked in the safe...

Yes, I have 3 gun safes. A small one in the bedroom for handguns and two large safes in the study for rifles and other assorted valuable clutter. A gun safe is required by law in my country before you can be issued with a firearm licence.

2 really really big ones! fireproof/bombproof/theftproof/moisture proof blah blah. dumped big bucks.
1st one is combo dial.........you'll be dead before you get to the second numeral. takes forever to open. 2nd one is push button.............hitting the press keys... Y-your, D-dead, N-now, M-mofo, will let you in safe in about 1.1 seconds. keep LOADED, nelson ford stainless springfield full-size, .45, one in pipe(federal hollow points), hammer back, on shelf in case BOOGER MAN surprizes me. both anchored to core/mantel of the earth by using ingenious device called red heads. the bigger of the two is really really really REALLY HEAVY! with planking on satillo tile we managed to break a couple of tiles while 6 of us moved it in thru front doors. break into my house while im gone............thats why i pay insurance premiums. burn my house down.............the safes and all the goodies will survive. smartest thing i have done. total security while im gone. but theres one lil problem w/breaking in at my house...................YOU get to figure out if its an...... HK day, a SPRINGFIELD day, a BERETTA day, a SMITH and WESSON day, a SHOTGUN day, a SEMI-AUTO BLACK EVIL ASSAULT WEAPON day, or A REACH OUT AND TOUCH SOMEONE (death from afar) SEMI or BOLT ACTION day! you choose which day you want to break in??????? at the very least....... there will be mass quanities of POOOOPY running down your legs! LOL! |

Yes I have one. In Canada we have a safe storage law, if the firearm is unattended it has to be locked up. It really is a good law as it prevents children from playing with guns.

I don't have any safes for my guns, just like I don't have safes for any of my power tools. We live in a rural area and when myself or my wife and teen kids need a gun to pop a varmint, it needs to be handy.
I guess we view them as tools just like an axe, kitchen knife or weedtrimmer. I can understand why some might use safes (little kids around or high crime areas), but I don't get why folks who talk about all of their personal/home defense weapons would keep them ALL locked in a safe where they could not get to them if the need arose. My wife and I both grew up in homes with guns in rural areas, so to us, I guess it just natural to have a .22 rifle laying around ready to use at a moments notice.

A small keypad safe in the bedroom holds my carry .38, loaded.
A locked gun case holds the remaining handguns, unloaded. Ammunition locked in a separate case. Long guns in other cased, unloaded, with trigger locks. I figure in an emergency, I'm not going to need immediate access to more than 1 gun. A proper fire resistant gun safe is on the agenda when we build out the basement. Will do double duty as storage for some papers and for an external hard drive. Other stuff, we keep in a safety deposit box. Having little kids, with their friends who occasionally visit, I think guns have to be locked away. My kids know not to touch my guns, but their friends might not.

All my long arms and handguns are kept in a safe, except for one pistol and my 870(my home defense tools). My kids are grown, so no worry about that.

my springfield micro .45 IS ALWAYS WITHIN HANDS REACH! that way i can shoot my way to the safe and get heavier more rapid response tools! LOL!
as well as my (2) RWS pellet guns(pistole and rifle) always where you can get them handy. as well as shovels placed strategically around property.. just used RWS, sat am, when goofy city slicker wanna be cowboy roommate had a heart attack finding a very nice 4 ft rattlesnake(diamondback-crotalus bite yer A$$-ES) in my stable/tackroom area wrapped around his tools. (1) round .177 to head and snake said "adios via con dios"! yep there just tools. but having any kids around is asking for trouble young or old. if i lived alone it wouldnt be a big deal. but............when you start getting into the upper echelon of GUN MANIA, and have completely lost your marbles and your wallet buying them.............no sense in getting them stolen. buy a safe! |

No, although I do have a locked carrying case in which my PC9 resides and a few other things. The Glock stays "ready for immediate action" at all times in an undisclosed location in my place.

No, but it's in the cards. Only one gun, so no arsenal to lock up yet.
![]() When I do pick up a safe, it will be a small fingerprint recognition pistol safe that I can keep near the bed. Probably the only safe that is simple to operate in the dark while in a panic. As the collection grows, I'll probably pick up a more conventional safe for storage purposes.

I have a 1930's office Diebold safe that I took out of a building in Los Angeles years ago before the building was demolished. Its about 7 feet tall and 3 feet wide.

It's L A W law down here! No choices - own firearms; have gunsafe. Ammo nees to be separated from weapons; although you can buy safes that have a separate compartment for that. I have ammo in one concealed and longarms in another very well concealed. Even the air rifle needs to be locked up in the same way as the shotguns.
Down here there is a stigma attached to owning firearms. Also my kids didn't grow up like I did with firearms so I wouldn't feel comfortable with them having any access to them. I was shooting by the time I was 8; my kids haven't yet even held a firearm - different times I guess. One day when I get some serious time I will sit them down and teach them how to handle and RESPECT a firearm...sometime before I am old and crotchety ![]() |

I never realized Oz had such strict gun control laws.
