Good. I heard that Chertoff is being considered as his replacement. I can't see him being approved based on his performance as head of DHS to date. We'll see.

I disagree. If he was going to fold he should have done it long ago. He had already weathered the storm, why not ride out the afterglow?

Recess appointment is probably the only way Chertoff could get in.

I can see your point about the timing of this, though it seems in line with the previous departures of some other controversial folks like Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz (from his World Bank post) to hang on as long as possible. Anyway, I wonder how the confirmation hearing will go for whomever is nominated for the AG post.

No, he doesn't have "a conscience after all...", and he didn't "resign", for chrisakes.

These are people w/ no shame, everything is just a football game to them and they are the Oakland Raiders, either up by 30, (after 9/11), or down by 20, (now). POS that guy is. Might be the worst ever.

I nominate Maricopa Co. Sheriff Joe Arpaio to succeed Gonzo. Who's with me?

Chertoff? No f*cking way. He just makes excuses about why the Amnesty bill was good, why he can't police the border and then he lauds Ted Kennedy. He needs to go private sector like yesterday.

Gonzales almost surely didn't resign on his own accord. He was quietly told "time's up". Interesting how it came after Rove left, which allowed more realistic advisors in the Whitehouse to be heard. They presumably saw there was no "afterglow" coming (no idea where len makes up this stuff), just more investigations, more revelations, and more damage to Bush.

I'm shocked, he's weatherd the storm so far.

Cheney's next?

Sent to me today by a Chinese friend:

Quote:
> Bush has defended Gonzales and cited Gonzales' rise as an achievement for
> Hispanics, the largest minority in the United States.

This is like claiming that William Hung made great strides for the positive
public image of Chinese Americans.

Bush's management style is very different than Clinton's. Whereas Clinton had very public disagreements with his advisors (which the press loved), Bush has very quiet disagreements. I have a feeling that advisors are told when to resign, and it may be for screw-ups that happened years ago--but Bush will reward loyalty with a delayed resignation so that it is not tied to a scandal (making getting another job easier). The press absolutely hates this as they can't stir up a controversy to get someone fired

no kidding

Wait for a slow news day and drop the ax. His resignation leads to a recess appointment when President's approval rating is better than congress, who had that in the office pool?
