Ah Hugh, while this is a great BBS, truth is I don't personally know too many of the guys on here. Now you come on asking for someones home phone number and it's about money??? With all the stuff you see on the news and in the media about idenity theft, not good.
Not coming down on you, ok, just pointing out the facts on why you might not be recieving any answers. I'm not a banker, but if I was, I'd be real leary of giving you or any other stranger my home phone number. Maybe rephrase your question, try and work with BBS PM's. And give a subject matter. I don't know, but that might keep both of you safe, which is what my major concern would be. Good Luck, Don |

Dude,
I've never met Hugh but he can have my phone number, hell , even my sisters phone number if he wants it ![]() He is about as active and respected member as you can get. We know what he does for a living, where he works, where he lives, know about his family etc.. And if you with 149 posts had asked for the same advice the same way your phone would be ringing off the hook with offers of help. We may beat up on each other down here in OT but this is the most generous, helpful group of people I've yet to meet. Spend some time with us and you'll get it. Scott

My brother in law works for a bank in Nigeria. I'm PM'ing you his telephone number. Please be prepared with your bank account number, PIN, SS# and mother's maiden name. And if you can help transfer some money out that he is holding on behalf of an exiled prince you will be rewarded with 25% of the amount.

Lol see thats the problem. Hugh has 3900 posts. I've followed his stuff for a couple years now. I know about his car, how he just sold his Aston Martin to the Prime Minister of Kuwait, how he has been on a number of runs and a lot of people on this board know him.
If I knew anything about banking, I'd be sending him my number. If he ever has a question about Logitech computer peripherals, I'll give him my number for that. |

Hey Guys, I'm not talking specifics about money, just wire transfer protocols in general. And Don, I understand what your getting at. I completely agree. I don't think I'd take the advice of someone whose posted 149 times, but I might listen to someone who has posted several thousand times.
San Diego Don, I think in my message, I asked for a PM not posting specifics about phone numbers on the internet.

I got hit with identity theft about 4 years ago, took over a year to get it straightened out, so I'm very cautious about this stuff. No they didn’t catch the scumbag either. 149 posts, this should make it 150. I can name a couple of websites having to do with cars, Porsches, bikes, etc, where the post numbers can and have been changed, so I wouldn’t put too much trust in that either.
So I posted something that I thought was helpful, guess I was wrong. There’s a big difference between being laughed with vs. laughed at, and I do know the difference. So hope you all enjoyed the laughs, see you round. |

I'm sure you a real banker will help out. A few thoughts:
Presuming you are concerned about international wire transfer problems, a wire transfer is reversible if the sending account is used fraudulently. If we accepted a wire transfer from an unknown account, we would call the sending bank (looking up the phone number independently) and verify both the account and the transaction. You should talk with an officer at your bank to get clarity on their specific process, protocols, etc. Perhaps they will open an account for you for just the purpose of the transfer, then close it after you transfer the funds to a different institution or account. And of course, this transaction will be reported to the feds. Hello capital gains... Hope you saved all the receipts to bring up the cost basis.

Hugh is a great member... period.
![]() my bride does big time complicated NYC wiring transfers w/many big banks for a private multi-billionaire RE business routinely. She tells me bank soaps all the time. Most of them are idiots to deal with. If Hugh needs any info beyond a simple transfer, like dealing with lock-boxes etc, send me questions in a pelican e-mail. btw.. the bride wins arguments with the IRS.

Hey Guys, several PMs and a lot of help. My question was regarding creating an account just for the funds to be wire transfered and then moving the funds to another account immediately, and the "benefit" of not only moving the funds to another account, but of moving them immediately to another institution. The general concensus that I got was that those are all good things, but if the wire transfer later turns out to have been fradulent, the bank will reverse the funds credited to your account and hound you down, irrespective of where you've transferred them. Hawktel, your absolutely right about fraud on the internet and "qualifications" of anyone whom you don't personally know. That's why I don't post my address or phone number (or social security number) here. But getting some interesting, but not life dependent advise, from Pelican friends is great however I wouldn't seek final legal, or medical advise here either.

Wise thinking Hugh...my advise on the car is to NOT sign the title or ship the car until your bank assures you that the funds are there, and have been deemed good.
