911 for Rudy Giuliani?

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/09/25/giuliani.house.party/index.html

Interesting, ain't it?

I never get involved in political debates anywhere on the forums but I'd vote for Juliani if he would run for the president. I was here in NYC when he was the mayor, he turned this city inside out and made it a better place, this man has a vision

Another example of the marketing of a political candidate.

Someone in his campaign comes up with ...let's remind people of his 'actions' on 9-11... tied to some form of cheesy/down home way to raise money ...the 'little peope' (small donors) will love it!

Perhaps.

I'm pro-Rudy and saw first-hand what he did with NY prior to 9/11. that's the reason to vote for him.

This, this is as distasteful as it gets. A really sad day for his campaign. Or maybe he could hold a fundraiser walking tour of gravestones of those who died that day.

Why is it that the majority of New Yorkers do not like Rudy?

And...Isn't he what one might call a "One trick pony?"

I do not know. Having not been a resident of NYC since the early 60s. (and only for a very brief time).

A cheesy move by some campaign staffer.

Besides the "little people" have put Obama on top in the fundraising game-despite all the cheesy (to a much greater degree) money moves made by his biggest rival.

As to the one trick pony remark- what trick is that? Adminstrating decisively and effectively in one of the biggest emergencies one of the largest cities in the world ever faced? Bringing down crime? Putting the city back on it's financial feet and killing the graffiti? Daring to put forth his "liberal" social views even if it may cost him the Republican nod?

I haven't seen another candidate with Rudi's experience and integrity- much less one with a moderate, realistic approach to social issues. Rudi's the only candidate I will support.

And every time CNN/Time/NYT/Wa PO etc. go after him he gets more support.

I take no side in this food fight. I ask because I simply do not understand Rudy's attraction to some people. If, for example, he was as decisive as some claim, then how come the anamosity by the home team and in particular, the firefighters? How about the decision to place the emergency center in the WTC despite recommendations that warned against this location? I would think that any politician worth his or her salt would have made every effort to look like a leader during a tragedy like 9/11. So, to me, that is a non-issue. I would expect that kind of reaction.

I do not find him that much different from most politicans-opportunistic. At this point I do not know who (if anyone) would support to be president. For the most part, all those looking for the job are from the shallow end of the gene pool. I see no outstanding leaders on either side.

I don't know if Rudi was responsible for the decision to locate the emergency center within the WTC. As I recall there was considerable push to locate a lot of city agencies there but from who I don't know. The Port Authority was there- I was doing business with them at the time. I think at least part of NYCTA was there too. The place could not find renters and the initial building of it was heavily subsidized by the city- long before Rudi arrived.

RUDY: WHY I LIKE GUNS
By CARL CAMPANILE

September 26, 2007
-- Rudy Giuliani yesterday cited 9/11 to justify his conversion from ardent gun-control advocate to supporter of citizens' rights to bear arms.

"You have to look at all these issues in light of the different concerns that now exist - which is terrorism - the terrorists' war on us," the GOP presidential front-runner said in an interview with The Associated Press.

Giuliani said his conversion was triggered in part by a court ruling striking down local firearm restrictions in Washington, D.C.

"It is a very, very strong description of how important personal liberties are in this country and how we have to respect them," he said.

Giuliani said "all that seemed much more powerful to me . . . sort of maybe even did more to crystalize my thinking on the whole gun issue in light of Sept. 11."

As mayor, Giuliani was one of the nation's top gun-control advocates.

Gun-control advocates blasted Giuliani.

"Rudy used to be a straight shooter," said Paul Helmke, head of the pro-gun control Brady Campaign.

"Rudy has learned the wrong lesson. Since Sept. 11, there's even a stronger argument to be made to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of criminals," Helmke said.

And
Dick Mooris said last night on TV that Rudy has to stress 9/11 to beat Hillary.

And
"Why is it that the majority of New Yorkers do not like Rudy?"
------------- NYC is the biggest baston of progressive intellectuals in the US. They elected him because they had no other choice for someone to manage the biggest city mess in the US other than another populist progressive. After they voted for him they denied that they did. If exit polls were taken the results would probably have predicted that Rudy will lose 30/70.

Gun control advocates just drive me ****** insane. When will they realize that criminals don't buy guns at Gander Mountain! But, I suppose that would mean admitting that their crusade is pointless, then they'd have to go back to their real jobs as flourists and librarians.

Rudy uses the Fed courts to make his case or lower courts to achieve his ends. When he can't use the courts the move is hush hush and the means of resolving the issue becomes rumor and speculation.. He's a Brooklyn Italian.
